Memory compatibility issues Intel Xeon 8268 CPU

Hi all,

 

I've a question regarding the memory compatibility of the Intel Xeon Platinum 8268 CPU.

We have about 200 HPE DL380 Gen10 servers with this CPU. Some of them are configured with different memory modules due to delivery problems.

 

Some of these servers have following memory configuration:

15x Samsung 64GB 2Rx4 PC4-2933Y-R Smart memory

1x SK Hynix 64GB 2Rx4 PC4-3200AA-R Smart memory

 

I believe that the SK Hynix 3200 module is only supported at the Xeon 83xx or higher family.

We have issues with updating the firmware on servers with such configuration, firmware update crashes with a memory configuration error. 

When we run exactly the same update on a Gen10 server with only samsung 2933 modules, no problems occur. 

When we run the update at a Gen10 server with a mixed memory configuration as shown above, we have serious issues (motherboard needs to be replaced to fix this issue).

 

Can someone confirm to me that the SK Hynix 3200 modules are not supported on the Xeon 82xx family?

The Intel Xeon Platinum 8268 supports a maximum memory speed of 2933 MHz, while the Intel® Xeon® Platinum 8380 Processor supports a maximum memory speed of 3200 MHz.

 

The SK Hynix 64GB 2Rx4 PC4-3200AA-R Smart memory is not compatible with the Intel Xeon Platinum 8268 because this processor supports memory speeds of up to 2933 MHz. However, the Samsung 64GB 2Rx4 PC4-2933Y-R Smart memory is fully compatible with the Intel Xeon Platinum 8268.
