Hey everyone,
I’m having some issues with my setup and could really use some advice. My CPU temps seem unusually high even at moderate workloads, and I’m also getting random app and game crashes.
My specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7-14700K
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5070
Motherboard: ASUS Z790-A WiFi
BIOS Version: American Megatrends Inc. 1820, 5/15/2025
RAM: Corsair 32GB DDR5
Cooler: Thermalright FW 360 White ARGB AIO
OS: Windows 11
I recently noticed that my CPU temps shoot up to 90–100°C during gaming or stress testing. My CPU temps seem to idle at 81+ I’ve also had multiple games and applications crash unexpectedly, which I suspect might be related to thermal throttling or instability.
I’ve already tried:
Reapplying thermal paste
Checking fan and pump headers in BIOS
Updating chipset and GPU drivers
Ensuring the cooler is mounted correctly
Is there anything else I should check in the BIOS or Windows settings to stabilize temps and stop the crashes? Could this be a cooler or voltage issue?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated — I’m just trying to figure out if this is a cooling problem, BIOS setting, or something else entirely.
Thanks in advance!

Hello RealystGemini,
Thank you for raising this concern with us. I understand how frustrating it can be to experience overheating issues with your system. With that, I’d like to investigate this further so I can provide you with the appropriate troubleshooting steps.
In addition to the steps you’ve already tried, may I confirm the following details?
- Have you attempted any other isolation methods?
- Have you tested the i7-14700K processor on another known working and compatible motherboard?
- When the system reaches 90–100°C, is it while idle or under load (e.g., when running specific applications)?
- What stress test application did you use?
- Kindly provide the serial number and batch number of the processor.
Once I gather the requested information, I’ll be able to provide the next troubleshooting steps to help isolate and address the issue.
Regards,
John M.

Hi, I have not tested the i7 on another motherboard. I currently only have this one.
The high temps are when i first bootup the pc or while its idle. Even when just on like google or Youtube the temp is high. Then it may drop down to 0c for like 5 minuets then jump up to 100c. But it mostly stays at 81c even when not using it. The stress test i use is OCCT or UserBenchmark. And the game i mostly play is Call of Duty
The S/N is U5JY618900943 Batch is X512N470
