Why isn't my new q6600 quad core processor not working?

Tried to update my DQ965GF boards e7200 processor to a q6600 and all I get is all kinds of blue screens of death with different error

messages ( 0x00000019 ...., 0x00000050..., 0x0000007E....etc.). Intel Processors and Boards compatibility tool says the q6600 should work with my BIOS number and board. Tried reinstalls, safe mode, different hard drive with new software (windows 7), tried to get the latest BIOS update but it will not let me do that either, .... Any one else had this problem with a q6600? Reinstalled my e7200 and it works fine. In fact the e7200 isn't

even listed on the compatibility list. How can I findout if the q6600 is bad? thanks.

Compatability details differ per board revision. Please answer the following:

• do you have a SLACR or SL9UM CPU
• what is the board revision
• what is the BIOS revision currently installed

FYI, if you get the 0x7E error again, I would like the first parameter (from the group of four hex numbers following 0x7E).

Jason, Here is all I wrote down before going back to e7200.

Seemed like I got a different Error everytime I tried to install CPU.

I am seeing some issues with what you have posted most recently.

1. originally you reported a q6600 CPU but now you report q8600
2. Windows bug check codes should have 8 characters, not including the 0x

The second isn't as dire as the first is.

Assuming that you are using a q6600 CPU as origianlly reported, the board revision and BIOS revision check out okay.

The bug check codes:

• 0x50 is page_fault_in_nonpaged_area
• 0x19 is bad_pool_header
• 0x7E is system_thread_exception_not_handled

Knowing what thread exception was not handled might shed more light on the issue.

See if you can clear up those two issues, or replicate the error codes and recollect the data. We'll go from there.

Jason, Sorry, just a misprint, it is a q6600. I would hate to have to try for a 4th time installing

the q6600, don't want to something go wrong with the e7200, but would if there was something

What Ram are you using the Q6600 has a 1066 FSB , So if the Ram does not match you will have problems.

The 965 only supports FSB of 800 the Q6600 is 1066 FSB will not work.

Yes But that means you have to run the Q6600 at 800Mhz. what a loss?

Doesn't the Q965 http://ark.intel.com/products/27732/Intel-82Q965-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller chipset support 1066 FSB?

In fact, page 16 of the http://downloadmirror.intel.com/15033/eng/DQ965GF_TechProdSpec.pdf TPS for DQ965GF shows 1066 as a valid Bus speed.

Sorry I did not notice according to that it sholud work , But still only at 800 Mhz because Ram is DDR2-800. Unless there is a BIOS update that will allow for 1066 Mhz . Than you could change the ram to match the CPU .

What RAM is being used on this system?

Charlie one of the first things you should is update your BIOS the one you have now is from Feb 2007?? The current BIOS is for Oct 5 2009 BIOS # 6100 . I will leave it up to you how you do the update. Different People have different choices as which is better. ? The next thing I would is go to Microsoft and run the Windows Test to see if your board will Pass the compatability test . Than see where you are ?

That might help to update the BIOS, but the http://processormatch.intel.com/COMPDB/SearchResult.aspx?Boardname=dq965gf compatability chart shows that the SL9UM is supported from 5678 onward.

Hi, I just bought a Intel DG33TL motherboard on ebay that is suppose to work just fine

with q6600 and my DDR2 Samsung PC2 6400 800 ram. We will see if the q6600 is good as well.
