I'd like to install NiosII/IDE v1.1 before I get started on my next project. Is it going to be available any time soon? I see Quartus 4.2 is available. It's not included in that update is it?

Thanks,

Ken

All,

The Nios II development tools version 1.1 update will begin shipping to subscribing customers in the second week of January. Additionally, the version 1.1 evaluation edition will be posted on www.altera.com/niostestdrive (http://www.altera.com/niostestdrive) on January 11th.

Thanks,

Alan

You really want to use Q 4.2/sopc 4.2 with Nios 1.1, there are many changes to Sopc Builder.

Thanks Alan! Thanks Kerri!

Do you recommend upgrading QII to 4.2 with NiosII v1.01?

Thanks,

Ken

I don't see why not.

Biggest change is multi-clock domain systems. The look is a bit different too.

There's a chapter in the Quartus handbook about Sopc Builder now.

Sorry, from another post:

http://www.niosforum.com/forum/index.php?a...ct=st&f=2&t=770 (http://www.niosforum.com/forum/index.php?act=st&f=2&t=770

Nios 1.0 sp1 is not compatible with Q 4.2

Can you get Nios II 1.1? THe eval edition should work just fine till the CD arrives.

Thanks for the headsup on 1.1 availability - is there any preliminary/outline info on the changes to the IDE from a software development perspective? Like, is it now Eclipse 3 based? http://forum.niosforum.com/work2/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif

Roddy,

No, not this time.. it was too close between 3.0's availability and our code-complete date for 1.1. Hard to achieve quality by tossing things in at the last minute. However stay tuned for the next Nios release.

Correction..3.01 came too late for us....

Hi Jesse -

Excuse my confusion, but does your closing comment about Eclipse 3.0.1 arriving too late for your 1.1 release mean that you *are* shipping 1.1 with Eclipse 3.0.0 ???

Hi Roddy,

Sorry for the confusion, no, its still eclipse 2.something. I believe the reason for not moving up at this time was because a major rev to the C development tools (CDT) just arrived and it would make sense ot upgrade them both in the same release on our end.

Hi Ken,

after several days of unsuccesfully testing I've just deinstalled Quartus 4.2 / NIOS2 1.1 because I couldn't get run my actual project (created with Q4.1 SP2 and NIOS2 1.0 SP1).

Thanks for the heads up. I don't have any shared buses so maybe I'll be ok? I just got 4.2 and 1.1 from my FAE. I'll install and try, but be ready to back off if I run into trouble.

One thing I've found so far is that each update has always had welcome improvements.

I never had the luck to update the development tools without modifying/redo the project.

So I'll do this when there is some time for mistakes and trouble...

We are making industrial machinery, and it is not possible for us to keep up with the changes in tools anymore.

Any others have this experience?
