i would like to look at upgrading my T6500 core 2 duo laptop processor to something in the core 2 quad family (Q9xxx). looking at the processor specs it all seems fine and dandy but i wanted to make sure. they are both obviously socket P but i know there are other variables that could cause it not to work such as a socket revision, nm rating and voltage. What do you guys think. If it helps the motherboard is out of a HP DV-3.

The motherboard manufacturer (on retail boxed units) and the system builder's (HP*) testing requires the use of our processors (not vice-versa). Having this testing done, the board is validated for the power and thermal specifications of the processor. The manufacturer must release a BIOS update for the board with explicit support for the stepping and frequency of the processor. They should also provide any configuration changes or updates specific to the board. Compatibility and upgrade information must be specific to a motherboard, and it must come from the motherboard manufacturer.
Therefore, the variables needing to be taken into consideration would be the socket size and compatibility support given by HP* in this case
