Hello! Everyone wanna help me

I've been recently upgrading an "old" laptop, i have upgraded:

>RAM from 4-->8GB

>SSD 120GB

And now, i wanna upgrade the CPU to increase performance, i have contacted samsung support, and they had recommended me the i5 2450M to fullfil the upgrade, because they have already done it and it has worked.

But i've been watching that probably MoBo could support i7 2620M or 2640M, i would like to know if it would succeed, or i have to take the Samsung's recommendation?

System Specs:

>PC: Samsung Notebook NP300V4A-A0FMX

>MoBo: Samsung Electronics Co. LTD. 300V3A/300V4A/300V5A FAB1

>Socket: rPGA988B

>Northbridge Chipset: Intel Sandy Bridge Rev. 09

>Southbridge Chipset: Intel HM65 Rev B2

>Current CPU: Intel Core i3 2350M @2,3Ghz

>Target CPU: Intel Core i5 2450M/Intel Core i7 2620M/Intel Core i7 2640M

>BIOS: Phoenix Tiano SecureCore: Version 10FI (Compatible with all CPU supported by Chipset)

>RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz Adata Dual Channel

>Hard Drive 1: SSD Kingston UV400 120Gb

>Hard Drive 2: HDD Samsung @5400rpm 500GB

1. I've contacted them, Samnung recommend i5 2450M to upgrade my i3 because they had already done it with another guy that got the same question but they told that i7 is possible, even an i7 3XXXM.

2. The BIOS description is made by phoenix technologies, so i contacted them, they told me that if socket can support it, i could dare to try, likewise samsung told me.

3. The BIOS was released 11/02/2012, that means i7 is included in support, (At leas that was samsung and Phoenix told.)

Hello Eduardo_V,

http://ark.intel.com/products/53452 Intel® Core™ i5-2450M Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.10 GHz) Specifications

One could find the information on the related processors from the above links. After comparing the specifications, the latter two have potential chances to work on your system without or with causal problems. For one thing, I could make sure that they could work, but at what kind of extenteds, I could not promise. This notebook has already reached the end of support, or phrase-out status. Born to try, maybe yourself could solve this question better than anyone else. Good luck!

I have to figure out that upgrading processors of notebook is not an easy thing and might damage your notebook permenantly. So everything is at your own risk!

Hello Eduardo_V,

In regard to your concern in order to do an upgrade of your MOBO you always need to take in count to many factors, and some of the most important are:

1. Compatibility with the socket

2. Once that you have the new processor you will need to verify the compatibility with the rest of the components. A good website from Intel where you can verify the compatibility with the rest of the parts it is:

http://ark.intel.com/ http://ark.intel.com/

Where you can submit the model of your processor and confirm more details.

Please bear in mind that Intel does not recommend any specific processor to a laptop, due to if the upgrade does not meet the requirements of your manufacturer (OEM) it may void the warranty, also the drivers and all the parts that came integrated with it could get any harm.

If would like to complete the upgrade, for a safe upgrade you can contact your manufacturer (OEM) in this case Samsung in order to know the best options that you have for the upgrade:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/ http://www.samsung.com/us/support/

I am looking forward to heard from you.

Regards,

Angie

That was the first pages i consulted, but i wanted to hear more opinions, or if someone has succeed doing it.

I got sure that every component is full compatible with 3 processors, and compatibility with socket is full for three.

Also i contacted all support that manufactured every component in my PC to get sure that there's no incopatibility. And it looks that upgrade with any processor could be fulfilled
