Hi everyone so I am in a bit of a pickle. I recently built a budget computer and and am using this motherboard linked below.
https://panam.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Intel2/4006153R/4006153Rsp2.shtml https://panam.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Intel2/4006153R/4006153Rsp2.shtml
Everything about what I built came together as I wanted it to except the CPU performance. I purchased a Intel Core2Duo 2.93 E7500. The problem is that I am only able to get one core to work. There is a setting in my BIOS called Core Multiplexing Technology that is currently off because everytime I tuned it on it forced my computer to blue screen. While that is irrelevant I need better performance from my CPU. I know the parts are dated but my question is in my windows settings , in the advanced tab there is an option to activate multiple cores. I have done it on my other computers I have but this one with a designated dual core processor only shows the one.
Am I wrong in thinking this is a dual core?
Also...
If I can do better what is the best Intel LGA775 socket processors with a 1066mhz bus out there? The compatible brands with my motherboard are below.
- Pentium® 4
- Pentium 4 with Hyper-Threading Technology
- Pentium D
- Celeron® D
- Core™2 Extreme
- Core2 Duo
For a computer that was built with all factory new parts for less than $250 performance is good but I think my CPU is holding it all back. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hello MQCHI,
http://ark.intel.com/products/36503/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-E7500-3M-Cache-2_93-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB?q=E7500 Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E7500 (3M Cache, 2.93 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) Specifications
Core Multiplexing Technology must be enabled when you want the system working in multicore environment. As is known 45nm Core Microarchitecture based processors, such as Intel Core 2 Duo E7500, is not officially support by Intel G965 chipsets, and working under 1066MT/s FSB, this chipset puts much higher requirements towards the physical memory modules.
Why it goes to blue screen, when enabled the CMT?
I am not so sure it is the hardware or compatibility problem! But you might possibly run a second O/S, such as Ubuntu, put it onto a USB stick. And boot your machine with CMT enabled with that USB stick, to check what your computer would go on. If perfectly with the second core working well, you might possibly reinstall Windows. Or, there might exist compatibly problem, and it is a hard problem, could not solved by software or patches onto its firmware.
Before Core 2 released, there was only Pentium Extreme processors equipped with 1066MT/s FSB, and it is a power hunger monster!

The above processor might be the extreme potential power exploiter.
