Hi to all,
I have a Dell Inspiron 3537 laptop with i7-4500U processor, which is almost three years old.
The processor temperatures reach up to 70 degrees Celsius, while it is not under a high load.
The lowest temperature, which I have measured was about 50 degrees Celsius.
I would like to know which is the normal temperature for the i7-4500U processor while the system is idle, and which is the normal temperature while it is under high load?
And also which are the safest temperatures, while the system is idle, and under high load?
Also which is the normal temperature while playing "heavy" games?
Please answer to me!
Thanks in advance!
Best regards!

Hello intel_92:
In regard to your question, it is difficult to provide an specific value of what the temperature should be under low or high loads of work, and the thing is that for laptops the temperature works different than in a desktop PC, based on the following link, it says that the T Junction: (Junction Temperature is the maximum temperature allowed at the processor die) is 100°C, so in theory, any temperature value lower than that is considered normal.
But that also depends on the system configuration, the fan in the laptop and the components working inside of it.
Additionally, when the laptop is getting overheated, normally it will start to freeze or it will start to throttle, if this is not happening then the laptop is working fine.
We do have a tool to test the processor, normally we use it on desktop PC's, but you can always try it, it does an overall test on the processor, including a temperature test:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool
Besides that, remember that the Intel® processor that we support on this department are Intel® desktop processors, they work very different from the Intel® mobile processors that are the ones you find on a laptop, that is why we do not have an specific value for the laptop to be on idle or when playing heavy games, let me apologize for that.
For further details you can always get in contact with Dell directly, they might be able to provide further details:
Dell's phone number: 1 800-624-9897
Dell's support site: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04 http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04
Any questions, please let me know.

Under 60.4c at the spreader is what Intel recommends as the maximum.
Opening your case could do more harm than good. Leave it closed as it would be designed for good airflow. Make sure you are not blocking your air vents and fans in the case and have good cable management. Keep it clean inside.
