I updated my asus mobo bios and im running irst 11.2, the bios says supports 11.2 all this under windows 7 32 bits.
Today i installed windows 7 64 bits now i wonder if i could be able to run irst 11,7?
somebody knows if the bios has to match the irst version? I tried to run 11.7 under windows 7 32 bits and the interface crashed all the time.

The Intel RST drivers v11.2 and v11.7 are totally different regarding their structure and their functionality.
All "conservative" Intel AHCI and RAID drivers from v8.x.x.xxxx until v11.2.x.xxxx are using just 1 driver (= SYS file) named iaStor.sys, whereas all newer Intel SATA drivers from v11.5 up to v12.5 are working with an AHCI/RAID driver named iaStorA.sys and an additional SCSCI filter driver named iaStorF.sys.
Since the development of the new RST drivers and their accompanied RST Console software is rather new, there were some earlier versions in the past with stability problems.
If your mainboard has an actual Intel chipset (5 Series or newer), I recommend to use the newest official RST drivers v12.0.0.1082 resp. the package v12.0.0.1083. According to my knowledge both are rock stable.
Advice: Before you install any new Intel RST driverpack, you should uninstall the previously used IRST software and do a reboot. This way you can prevent a lot of unnecessary problems.
Now to your question regarding the relationship between the BIOS and the SATA drivers: There is one, because the version of the Intel RAID ROM resp. EFI "SataDriver" module, which both are part of the BIOS, should match with the version of the in use IRST drivers to get the best results. Most important is this for RAID systems, where the user wants to get Win7 or Win8 installed in UEFI mode. In this case the OS Setup may not accept any of the "conservative" Intel RAID drivers using the iaStor.sys.

Thanks for the info Fernando you know a lot congrats.
Well i have an asus p8z68 pro /gen 3 mobo with an i7 2600 2gen processor, i have the lastest asus bios which says is compatible with ISRT 11.2 released last year.
I dont know if the new IRST like 12.0 would work on my machine sadly right now intel download center is not online.
Do you think it will work? where are those 12 drivers cause intel download center only shows these being the 11.7 the latest:

Yes, I think, that they will work for your system.
You will find these v12.0 drivers dated 01/02/2013 at Intel's Download Center, if you search for "12.0.0.1083". They can be used with with AHCI and RAID systems as well.
If you should not been satisfied with these new RST driver generation using an additional SCSI driver, I recommend to reinstall the last "conventional" Intel RST driver v11.2.0.1006. Don't forget to uninstall the currently running RST software before you are going to install another RST driverpack.

@ Antonio:
Your negative results with the v12.0.0.1082 drivers really surprised me, because I have seen a lot of reports from Z68 chipset users, who were very satisfied with them.
Nevertheless your decision is understandable: Stick with the "conventional" RST driver v11.2.0.1006, which comes without the additional SCSI filter driver.

The problems with the RST v11.6 software are wellknown, but I thought, that Intel had solved them with the RST v12 series.
By the way: Have you ever tried to install just the RST drivers without the software?
That is what I am doing.

I have also had this problem since installing Windows 8 (64 Bit)
I have tried IRST versions 11.5.4.1001, 11.6.0.1030, 11.7.0.1013 and 12.0.0.1083 and they have each failed with an assertion error.
The application then returns an "Unknown Error" resulting in the IRST service failing to start.
Note in the screen capture below that the "Accelerate" button is missing.
I understand that the "Accelerate" button may not show if the SSD to be used for caching is not installed, but in my case it is and can be seen by right clicking "Computer" then "Manage" then "Disk Management".
It is shown as 59.63 GB of unallocated space, which I understand is exactly as it should be.
My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H with the latest Bios, if that information is of any help.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

On any Intel RST versions higher than 11.2 (on 11.5, 11.6, 11.7, 12.5) in case of start of the utility of a configuration the error is constant:
On the Intel RST 12.0 BSOD version in case of computer start:
BSOD 0x0000001E (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)
I checked with Intel RAID OROM 10.5, 11.2 and 12.5.

Just tried the newly released IRST v12.5.0.1066.
No improvement, same problem as before. ("Assertion Failed" error, followed by "Unknown Error" in the software)
Is this ongoing issue caused by an unresolved bug with the software, or is it more likely to be due to a problem with my system?
Perhaps I have reached the point where I should re-install my operating system from scratch.
Maybe that is now the only way to get this software to work properly.
Any helpful advice at this point would be very welcome.
Thank you.
Jim.

Since there are only a very few users, who have reported about problems with the v12 RST software, I suspect, that you got a mismatch of some registry entries. This can be caused by the switches of the Intel RST drivers and software versions you have done.

I totally agree with you. That is the best way to eliminate all file and registry residues of the previously installed RST drivers and software versions.
Good luck!

The next question is....
Could the problem I am having with IRST have anything to do with my Windows 8 installation being an upgrade from Windows 7, rather than a clean install?
Thanks for the help so far.

That seems possible, if you installed Win8 onto the same partition as your previously used Win7. It is always better to do a clean OS installation.
Just do a google search and you will find the way how to get a Win8 Upgrade version properly and clean installed.
