Hello,
I'm having issues with the RST service being unable to start when HDDs are added to a Broadcom 9560-8I RAID controller.
Specifications are:
Asus Pro WS Z890-ACE SE motherboard
Intel Ultra 7 265
2x 16GB DDR5 MT4800 – Kingston 9905783-522.A00G / KVR48U40BS8-16
2x Samsung 980 Pro M.2 NVMe setup in RAID1 using Intel RST VMD.
2x Huawei E200 M.2 NVMe setup as single drives.
Broadcom 9560-8i RAID Controller using latest 7.733.03.00 driver & firmware 52.33.0-6168
Windows 11 Pro OEM 24H2 with all updates installed
Issue:
Intel RST service fails to start when HDDs are attached and configured to the Broadcom controller. Drives connected to RST work without any issues, but without the services running it is not possible to get notifications should the RAID array degrade.
I have 13 workstations in production and they are all affected by this issue.
Error reported by RST:
Checking services in Windows, it shows that the RstMwService fails to start. When trying to manually start the service Windows reports that the service started but was stopped due to an error.
When rebooting the system without any HDDs attached to the Broadcom controller, the RstMwService starts normally and RST GUI is able to load without issue.
BIOS & Driver versions tested:
Motherboard BIOS: 2006, 1901 & 1101
RST App version: 20.0.1021.0
RST Driver version: 20.2.1.1016 + 20.1.0.1015
RST report + SSU is attached.
Any assistance or suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Cheers

Hi Lars_Arberg_Ernitec,
Thank you for reaching out and providing detailed information about the issue you're experiencing with the Intel RST service on your workstations. I understand how critical it is to have reliable notifications for RAID array status, and I'm here to help.
Note:
Please ensure you back up all data/files before proceeding with the steps below. If the error was encountered while launching/opening the Intel Optane Memory and Storage Management, update the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver to the latest version available for your platform. Always verify that the BIOS is set up properly for your platform. Verify the steps in the proper installation guide. For more information, you can refer to Intel's Support Article.
Steps to Resolve:
- Reboot the System: In some cases, rebooting the system has resolved the issue. Please try this first.
- Restart the Service RstMwRpc:
- Search for the Services Windows app (Open Windows Menu and type "services").
- Select the Services app.
- Press "Yes" if the User Account Control popup appears.
- Restart the service by following these steps:
- Locate the RstMwRpc service.
- Right-click and select "Restart" from the menu.
If Error Persists:
- Disable acceleration and uninstall the application.
- After restarting, reinstall the application and enable acceleration.
I hope these steps help resolve the issue. If you continue to experience problems, please feel free to reach out for further assistance. If you prefer a faster communication method, please let me know if a phone call would be more convenient for you.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Best regards,
Dean R.
