Good morning,
I Would like to know if it is possible to monitor the integrity of the raid by SNMP?
Software: Intel Rapid Storage Technology
Controller: Intel C600+ / C220+

Hello, @Proips

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities. I will gladly assist you here.

What are your system specifications? (processor, motherboard, storage specs, RAM, etc.).

How did you create the RAID? Have you created the RAID via Intel® RST or via BIOS?

Just to confirm, by SNMP, are you referring to Simple Network Management Protocol?

Best regards,

Hello, @Proips

Thank you for the information provided.

The monitoring options offered by Intel® RST are Windows and email notifications if the RAID is created via Intel® RST. However, since your RAID was created via BIOS, we recommend you to check what options your Motherboard Manufacturer offers you.

Hello how are you?

Yes this is a Major Issue with RSTe controllers. I have one server running the Intel C600/220+ raid controller in the Software it shows one drive has failed. But In the WMI manager it reports everything is OK. Intel really need to code some sort of SNMP into the software so MSP's can monitor drive failures. We just switched to Nable MSP and we cannot for the love of god find a way to get the SNMP to work on this Intel Raid Controller.  Hardware controllers are all fine for high end servers. We need SNMP for the onboard intel controllers. I know some coding so I'm am trying to find a software to read the SMART status of each drive and then generate a SNMP monitor.

Intel you really need to fix this going forward.

Please and Thank you if you can.

I do wish you good luck, neither WD succeed to read individual SMART of any HDD handled due INTEL RAID Array.

Intel you really need to fix your stuff. I mean seriously this is 2024 and all newer boards in servers and others are using Intel RSTe Or Vroc over CPU. There is no settings for SNMP, No email settings for user name and passwords. Your a multi billion dollar company and you cannot even fix this simple issue.

I have a boss that ready to pretty much fire me for your lack of support. I have spent over 3 weeks working 8 hours a night after my normal hours of work trying to get this to work. Trying to write my own programs to make it work.

I getting sick of this Intel fix your dame crap and get this working.

If I asked AMD to fix this I'm pretty sure they would be willing to fix this issue in a day.

I'm getting to the point I will never buy a single intel product again if this is what you call support.

Thank you, I had long time to have a good laugh ..

Please take a screenshot of RST ..  Preferences field,  and upload it for us to see.

I am not INTEL, but neither them will respond at such childish comments.

So all that you have to expect is user to user assistant.

About your Boss, he should hire a better one than you.

You know this actually reminds me of 2006 all over again. I had a problem with Aopen Motherboards with AMD CPU's not idling correctly. I talked to there support lines to add some options in the bios to enable some features like other motherboard companies had and they did not help.

So I told them fine I will write my own bios and make it work myself they all laughed at me and said ya right. Well I spent 3 months 18 hours a day learning how to make my own script using WPCREdit and came up with my own assemble code langauge and writing tools to make a option rom to a bios using mod4bin. Then figured a way to compile it and tested it on couple Aopen motherboards I had.

After some testing one dead board I came up with a bios that worked and finally had all the features needed.

Too be a pumpus ass I released the zip file and bios on their own fourms.

Ya 500,000 downloads nothing but praise to what I had done. Even the open support asked me how the hell did you do this.  I said ya like im telling you. Should have just listened too your customers in the first place then none of this would have happened.

Then I released my source code to biosmods.com so ya I'm one of the founders.

If I have to program a new Intel RSTe manager software with SNMP and correct email options I might because I'm sick and tired of deal with support who makes tons of money to do nothing!

Cheers

Launch RST , click help, click index , select the topic :   Enabling E-mail Notifications

RST this is not an email client, it will simply use the default email software of Microsoft and admin user account.

Even the networked uninterruptible power supply, they use this identical function.

Windows Network administrator this is a separate profession,  find one so him to configure server and workstations property.

Due the fact that latest email server (Non - windows one) may have different  email port settings, feel free to consult the email server administrator.

Have a nice day.

Email Notifications and the only thing you can put in is a outgoing mail server and port 25 which no one uses these days. No options for user account or login nothing. Oh well We bought HD Sentinel which has those options and got the emails going out and now shows the failed drive in a alert the RSTe does not report anything.

About E-mail server port, its not responsibility of INTEL or Microsoft, there is a default setting which it might need to be configured according to network infrastructure and settings.

If you were serious about writing your own software,  the most valuable question that you should ask, would be of how to trigger RST so this to generate (false) error reports for testing purposes.

End of this tiny IT level seminar.

Thats a pretty big error that RSTe does not want to report since it cannot read SMART DATA.

RSTe says it working fine and dandy.

For a Server this kinda is important to have this info.

Also its not a desktop computer this is an actual server blade super micro.
