CPU-ID

I am trying to read the CPU serial number from inside a software I am developing. When I do so, I get zeros.

I have read that by default the CPUID is disabled by the BIOS / OS. I have also read that Intel was thinking of dropping the CPU ID altogether, from their CPUs.

Can you please update me of the status of the CPU serial number?

Is is supported by all/some/none CPUs?
I did not find how to enable it in my BIOS. Do you know of such BIOS-es that do not allow to enable CPUID?

Thanks,
Hayim.

Hello Hayim,

The Processor Serial Number (PSN) was introduced on the Pentium III Processor, and then shortly thereafter de-featured due toperceived privacy concerns. (It is only supported on certain models of the Pentium III Processor.)

Hope that helps,
