Eye Safety

Since it is a laser device, is RealSense governed by any eye-safety regulations? If so, what agency tested it and are the documents public?  If not, how is it exempt?

The F200 camera is tested by the American FCC commission and also has the CE safety mark on it.  I don't have the packaging any more so don't know what the FCC number for it is.

Edit: I tracked down a PDF copy of the camera's safety info.

It says in the top corner:

"Complies with US FDA performance standards for laser products except for deviations pursuant to Laser Notice No. 50, dated June 24, 2007 .This device complies with International Standard EN/IEC 60825-1:2007:03 for a Class 1 laser product."

Marty G., thank you - that's very helpful.  Also on that page it says more information is available on the realsense website (intel.com/software/realsense).  Has anyone found this data?

I had a look myself on the site but couldn't find anything related to safety regulations.   The site has changed a lot over the past months so it's possible there was something there once at the time that PDF leaflet was made but not anymore.  There's not really much more that can be said about the laser anyway that the safety PDF didn't cover (i.e don't break open the camera casing and lick the laser whilst it's turned on).  :)

Edit: this totally reminded me of the old Nintendo Wii's crazy Japanese safety leaflet!

That Wii safety leaflet is hilarious.  Reminds me when my wife really decked our 9-year-old while playing Wii tennis.

We would like to integrate RealSense (or something like it) into one of our products and I'm trying to figure out what the labeling consequences will be from UL (we already need UL eye safety approval for another component).  Perhaps I'll find out what HP, Acer, et.al., have done when they integrated RealSense into their products.

I hadn't heard of the UL standards before today.  FCC, CE and ISO are often viewed as being the main standards for their products to comply with, though clearly UL is globally regarded as being very important too.

After a looooong search, I managed to dig up the UL certificate details for RealSense's laser for the F200 and R200 models.  Do a Find operation for the words 'laser camera' to find the entries.

To make things easier for you, I extracted the entries.

Laser camera module, "Intel® RealSenseTM 3D Camera Rear R200" , Model(s)  H55024-XXX

Laser camera module, "Intel® RealSenseTM 3D Camera Front F200"  H53987-XXX (A)

Anyone knows FCC ID number for SR300?

I can find for R200(MSIP-REM-CRQ-VF0830) but couldn't find for SR300.

The FCC ID search interface is horrible, so I'm not surprised you couldn't find it.  I applied a bit of lateral thinking though and image searched for the back of the SR300's box packaging!  I found this from an eBay India seller who was selling an SR300:

Looks like the FCC number is MSIP-REM-CRQ-VF0810

Here's the FCC entry I found using the number.

https://fccid.io/MSIP-REM-CRQ-VF0810

The FCC entry doesn't mention the identity of the product, but googling for 'realsense vf0810' reveals that this number does indeed relate to the SR300.

Hi Marty,

Yes I applied same thinking that is why I also searching using vf0810 since most of the FCC number has product code at the tail of the ID.But I couldn't find any website results from googling. I guess your country setting for searching engines does works in that way.

Anyhow, strongly agree with you for the FCC ID search interface hoping allow me to search by product name or module number. This is awesome and really thanks for your help!
