The new MSFT Color Control Panel Applet (See http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/prophoto/colorcontrol.mspx) enables loading a default ICC color correction profile for the display device.
It appears the Intel custom display settings application which integrates itself into the display properties control panel and the shell menu somehow breaks this setting and forces the graphics adapter into a state where the ICC profile cannot be loaded again without rebooting the system.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install the MSFT Color Control Panel Applet.
2. Using the above, set a default ICC profile for the display device. Observe display color response changes as the setting is applied.
3. Invoke the Intel Graphics Settings application through the shell context menu or the desktop > properties > settings > advanced > Intel GMA Driver CPL.
4. Observe color correction being reset to disregard the default profile.
5. Attempt to reinstall the default ICC profile using the Color CPL. This time nothing happends. Reboot is now required to get the color profile setting to "bite".
Comments? Workarounds?
