Intel C++ Studio XE 2011 licensing

hi all..

I would like to use this product, but the project I'm currently working on does not have funding for it. Normally i work as a contractor, but for this project i'm signed on as a contracted member of the company. Is it possible for the company to buy a commercial license for this product, using my money for the transaction, then have them transfer the licences to me on completion of the project? I would really like to get some experience with your toolset and need a way to get past the red tape. We are using gcc, so only the monitoring components of the studio would be used.. if necessary i would consider buying VTune and Inspector separately if that gets around the licensing.

thanks!

Hi there,

I'm not 100% sure the answer of your questions. Please let me ask around in our support team and get back to you later.

Thank you.

From looking at some of the Intel tool licensing agreements, it seems that the license can be transferred given Intel's written permission. Is this so and, if it is, would permission be granted in this case?

The EULA (http://software.intel.com/sites/products/documentation/EULA/Intel_SW_Dev_Products_EULA.pdf) has a section about transfer of licenses. See below:

SOFTWARE TRANSFER: You may permanently transfer the Materials and all of your rights under

this Agreement to another party (Recipient) only if you notify Intel of the transfer by sending a letter

to Intel certifying that you retain no copies of the Materials and that the Recipient has agreed in

writing to be bound by all of the terms and conditions of this Agreement. Please send such letter to:

Intel Corporation

2111 NE 25th Avenue

Hillsboro, OR 97124

Attn: DPD Contracts Management, JF1-15

Please readit and make sure that your company and youcomply with it. Ifyour company and youdo, we may transfer the license for you.

However, if yourcompany is going to distribute any libraries or other runtimes that use some components (such as Intel compiler, IPP, etc)in C++ Studio XE 2011, the companyprobably needs the license. I'd recommend you to check with your lawyer regarding this.

Thanks,
Feilong

I'm getting bounceback from the legal team.. they aren't sure what such a letter would look like. Can you provide a sample letter which would transfer the license? It seems straightforward to me, but i'm no lawyer.

You may go to https://premier.intel.com and submit a ticket asking for a transfer, as the current owner of a license. A written letter is notrequired, I think. Our support will transfer the license, which is under your account, to another account, per your request.

Thanks,
Feilong

Regrettably our legal dept. is quite strict and wants to deal with written letters. If you can provide an example of the text required for such a letter (it sounds like it would be very simple) then they would be satisfied. I'm also not sure what happens if the receiver of the license does not currently have a Premier Support account. Can they create an account with access to Premier Support if they do not already own a license to an Intel software product?

I'm sorry but I have never seen such an sample letter either...You probably have to write from scatch.

If your license is still good for support (with a support expiration date later thandate of transfer), the receiver will be able to create a Premier account. Otherwise he/shewouldn't.

So the same license can support Premier accounts for both the seller and the buyer before the transaction takes place? I'm sure you've had time to check this, but i just wanted to make sure.

Before the license transfer, the current owner (person A)is able to submit and view issues in Premier support web site. After the license is transferred to person B, person B will gain the ability to submitissues and view issues that he submitted. Person A will be unable to submit issues, but he will still be able to view issues he submitted before. Please let me know if this answers your question.

Thanks,
Feilong
