Interaction between WM_Paint and GetOpenFileName Dialog

Hi
We have a graphics program. When we use GetOpenFileName/GetSaveFileName dialog and do not change the directory to select a file, then our application does not repaint. But if we change directories to select a file, then our application repaints. This behavior seems peculiar to us. Is it the expected behavior or can somebody think of something we maybe doing wrong?
