I have two laptops: dell 1310 T5670 X3100 and Lenovo SL400 P7370 X4500. Both run windows xp.
Anyway, by installing the newest xp driver for both GM965 and X4500, it seems there is a big problem for this kind of new drivers.
Warcraft 3, my favorite game, old and classical. With the new driver, X3100 can enter into the main manu but can't start a game... The old driver (only for 965) works great. and the X4500, it runs smooth in the main manu (60 FPS). anyway, once it starts a game, the FPS will drop to around 20 FPS, very bad performance for this game. X3100 with old driver will run it round 40 FPS with same 3D settings.
All xp drivers for GM45 have this problem. How can I solve this problem or will the coming new driver version deal with it?
The driver problem makes the X4500 a rubish for me...is this the so called Montevina?

X4500 IGP is in Montevina systems. X4500 is theoretically superior in every way to the X3100 and the fundamental architecture is very similar. In theory, same drivers should not have different behavior between two GPUs. For the X3100, you can run it on new drivers. Ask around places to enable/disable software T&L/VS. Enabling software T&L/VS usually fixes the problem for older games. For the X4500, the same method might work. Of course, the best way would be for Intel to fix it but hmm I don't know if they will.

Thanks very much! Could you teach me how to enabling software T&L/VS?
Thanks

If you don't want to mess with the registry, then rename the executable of the game you want to test with SW T&L instead of HW T&L to "farcry.exe". Gives more performance in older games.
