Parallel Studio 2015 license problem

I have the cluster edition of the parallel studio XE 2015 (intel 15.0).  (Your naming conventions confuse me, so I'm going to cross them here.)

I also have intel 11.1, 13.1, and 14.0 installed.  Before installing intel 15, all previous versions used the same license file and server and all worked.

I installed intel 15.0 (with all the trimmings) as well as putting the new license on the license server.

The server is only serving the license file I got for 15, but the three previous versions are still operational.  What isn't operational is the intel 15 install.  It complains that:

Error: A license for CCompL is not available (-5,412).

Make sure that a license file is being used that contains a license
for the requested feature.  If your license requires a license server,
make sure that the server is using the right license file (usually,
this would be the same license file that is being used by this
application), and make sure that you have not changed the license
file since starting the server.

icc: error #10052: could not checkout FLEXlm license

List item #2 refers to the proper file:

This is the exact same contents of the USE_SERVER.lic file on each of the three other installs.  It works there, it doesn't work here.  I tried using INTEL_LICENSE_FILE and LM_LICENSE_FILE to no avail.  The license server logs all the usage for the other compilers but is completely silent about any attempts to check out an intel 15.0 license.

I've used INTEL_LMD_DEBUG=1 and the information returned, while more voluminous, isn't really any more enlightening (at least to my untrained eye):

Wayne,

Looks like you are running an older Intel® Software License Manger. To server version 2015 Intel® Software Development Products you need to install the latest license manager v2.3 (lmgrd v11.12) available from:

https://registrationcenter.intel.com/regcenter/Download.aspx?productid=2080&pass=yes

If the license manager is not actual and you cannot upgrade it right now, a workaround would be to use the server license with full license contents (without the USE_SERVER line) also on clients for activation/installation. This bypasses the version check and so you can run 2015 products also under an older license manager. But in any case you should upgrade the license manager as soon as possible.

Did any of the error message actually indicate that, or did you just know that was one of the possible problems and you manually checked it?

In other applications, when there was a version problem, it was pretty clear from the error messages.  (Ansys leaps to mind.)

Thanks for pointing that out! Yes, a more intuitiev error message would be good instead of the generic error

'Error: A license for CCompL is not available'.

I'll take your suggestions and file a feature request to evaluate if there is a chance to make a version mismatch problem error more informative.
