Safe to remove RealSense R200 from case?

Hi,

this is not really RealSense *SDK* specific, but I'm not sure what forum would be a better match...

I just learned that some of my colleagues dismantled an R200. Now I remember reading somewhere that opening a Kinect v1 -- which also is a Laser Class 1 product is not a very smart thing to do since it can cause eye damage without the diffusers or what not (unfortunately, I cannot find the source anymore).

I'm wondering if this is true and whether or not this applies to the RealSense cameras as well.

Opening the module is not advised. The module is rated at class 1 in normal operation, but the laser diode can reach harmful levels when exposed. You also risk misalignment and possible overheating by removing the circuitry from its enclosure.

Not a good idea to open a laser product if you would like to continue seeing the world.
