Marcyk said Intel plans to introduce its fully depleted SOI, raised source/drain transistors and high-k gate dielectric materials at different stages in the 90- and 65-nanometer process technology nodes, but he would not disclose the sequence of introduction.

A group of researchers at the University of California, Santa Barbara and Intel Corporation suggests that Silicon-on-insulator (SOI)-based devices are more responsive to cooling and that the benefits of cooling increase as technology scales -- encouraging news for the industry.
