Hi: We have two floating licenses for the Intel Fortran compiler. Previously, say with Composer 2013 and earlier, I was able to forward the license server ports with ssh to my local machine and check out a license. However, this has recently stopped working. Was it something on our end? Or some change to the way FlexLM works in new versions of Composer? I'm at a total loss how to troubleshoot this. I've checked the obvious things: I can ping the license server and telnet to the server ports. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,

To add another piece of info: I copied the FlexLM installation on the license server to my local machine and ran the lmstat command:
[flexlm]# ./lmutil lmstat -c /opt/intel/licenses/USE_SERVER.lic -a lmutil - Copyright (c) 1989-2011 Flexera Software, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Flexible License Manager status on Wed 9/17/2014 21:18 License server status: 28518@infinitron License file(s) on infinitron: /opt/flexlm/server.lic: infinitron: license server UP v11.10 Vendor daemon status (on infinitron.bw01.transpireinc.com): INTEL: UP v11.10 Feature usage info: Users of ID8CBD2CF: (Total of 2 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use) Users of ArBBL: (Total of 2 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use) Users of CCompL: (Total of 2 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use) Users of DbgL: (Total of 2 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use) Users of FCompL: (Total of 2 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use) Users of MKernL: (Total of 2 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use) Users of PerfPrimL: (Total of 2 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use) Users of ThreadBB: (Total of 2 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use)
which seems completely reasonable to me. But the compiler still can't check out a license.
By the way, the links in the Intel HTML to the FlexLM installer don't lead anywhere. See: https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/performance-tools-for-software-developers-intel-flexlm-license-servers and the link on that page https://registrationcenter.intel.com/RegCenter/Download.aspx?productid=633 doesn't go anywhere.
Thanks,

Hi Allen,
I guess you installed the Intel® Fortran Composer XE 2015. If this is the case you need to update your Intel® Software License Manager to the current version 2.3 (download: https://registrationcenter.intel.com/RegCenter/Download.aspx?productid=2080&pass=yes). Your lmstat output shows that you are running license server v11.10 which is incompatible.
As a quick workaround until you can update the license manager you can use the license file with full license info (not the USE_SERVER license) on your client and modify the license enviornment variable to
export INTEL_LICENSE_FILE=<licensefile>
Regards, Hubert.

Hi Hubert: When I follow that link, I'm not able to download the license server. The page says:
The product updates/upgrades below are available based on your support subscription status.
Intel takes your privacy seriously. Refer to Intel's Privacy Notice and Serial Number Validation Notice regarding the collection and handling of your personal information, the Intel product’s serial number and other information.
There is a link to this same page from our main software page:

Clicking the "Download files" link next to "Intel Software License Manager" leads to basically the same "We are unable to find registrations/downloads matching this request" message. Can you figure out why I can't reach the file to download?
Meanwhile, I will try your work-around. However, the machine on which the license server is installed is a so-called dual homed machine with several network cards and different IP addresses depending on which leg of the LAN you are on. This worked OK with earlier versions of FlexLM. Should we now move the license server to a simpler machine with a single IP address?
Thanks,
Allen

Hi Hubert: Your work around of using the full license file instead of USE_SERVER works great. Thanks!

Allen,
Thanks for confirmation. The final solution however should be that you update the License Manager to the newest version and change back the local license file to USE_SERVER.

Hi Hubert: I guess my other post was eaten by a grue. When I go to the link you provided above, the system tells me that there is no such feature available even though a link to the "Intel License Manager" exists on the main download page. I have tried several links on a variety of pages and I still cannot find the updated FlexLM server.
Thanks,

Allen,
Only users with floating license registrations can access this link. I'll give you another link in a private message.

Mike,
Yes will do. Which is the OS and platform (32- or 64-bit) of your license server?
Regards, Hubert.
