Hi,
I don't have a windows 8.1 system with an intel chip, I do have a windows 7 intel i7 laptop. So I installed Oracle VM VirtualBox and created a new windows 8.1 VM. The VM is working fine and the VirtualBox is recognising the RealSense device, and some of the windows 8 is also recognising the device but I get an error in windows device manager, the demo apps within the SDK crash, the firmware update says no device found.
I do have a AMD system with windows 8.1 so I will try this tonight, but the rules say intel only chip, so I do need this VM to work anyone else have this working within a VM?
Thanks,
Garry

Hi Garry P.
RealSense 3D camera requires USB3 port to function properly. Right now VirtualBox doesn't support USB3 port mapping to guest OS.
You can try using VMWare since they claim USB3 support, but it could be slow and you may not get high resolution streaming on virtual box.

Likewise, I wonder if you are only able to get the 2D cam (face detect) to work and not the 3D/depth stuff
