is there a command to clear the screen in a console application?

Not really. You may want to look at SCREENIO.ZIP Unpack this into your project folder and add the .f90 and .lib files to your project. Read the .f90 file for the interfaces. Add USE SCREENIO to your source to get access to the routines.

Note that this works on NT/2000 only, not 95/98/Me.
