memory allocation update

I have two versions of the same program. One is a console application and runs fine: I can use almost all of my 2Gb of memory. The other is a quickwin application. It is the same as the first but has simple graphical output. It fails with an insufficient virtual memory error if I try to use more than 1Gb. Any ideas?
