The original Core Duo (dual core) was meant for laptops (32-bit OS only) and was superseded a few years ago by the ubiquitous Core 2 Duo, which originally supported SSSE3 instruction set, as well as both 32- and 64-bit OS, in both laptop and desktop versions. More recent Core 2 Duo support SSE4.1 instructions, like the new Core Solo, but draw much more power than Solo (several times as much power, in desktop models).
