Intel PCM: is it modeling or measuring energy ?

Hi everyone,

My question is quite simple, I would to make sure that Intel PCM is actually measuring energy on a computer equipped with two: "Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 0 @ 2.00GHz"

I have been told that on this CPU, as it is before the Haswell, all Intel PCM is doing is just modeling the energy consumption and not actually measuring it.

To sum up:

What is Intel PCM actually doing concerning energy consumption measurement on a Intel Xeon E5-2650 v1 from 2012 ? Modeling energy or measuring energy ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Forget it, I found my solution here:

"Energy Efficient Servers" by Gough, Steiner and Saunders contains a description of the counters that are used in Intel PCM. (p. 214 onwards). The ebook version is available for free:
