Hi All,
I have an HP Envy 13 with the AC7265 Wireless module. I continually get Intel reminders telling me that there is a new driver for my laptop and to update it. However, when I attempt to do this with the Intel software update reminder, I am told that I have a later driver already installed. How can this be? I have never been able to update it ????
Help please

Grasping at straws: What if you disable the device before uninstalling the driver?

Certainly give it a go but I am now convinced that the Intel installation code is checking some locations that have MS data which is not being managed correctly(not clearing/overwriting it). Interesting that the uninstall process is not reseting these locations either.
This inability of the DSA to install the new driver has been going on for many months and today I got another notification to install the new driver!
Thanks for staying with me on this. Your efforts most appreciated!

Even though the driver is being identified as being from Microsoft, the version string would seem to indicate that it's really an Intel driver, and thus the hairy finger is pointing their way. This would not be the first time that Intel screwed up a submission. Unfortunately, while I can tell you this, I am unsure what to do about it - but have another thought: keep uninstalling it until you clear it out completely. Try doing the uninstall-and-reboot a couple of times and see it you can clear it out that way.
Hope this helps,

I will try everything you suggest.
I wonder if selectively re-naming some of the file extensions in the target areas to .old that the installation checks may cause it to burst into life. Do you have any detail about the locations of the files that get sniffed by the install code? I will take a look at the install log file which should give me some clues. Might be a registry entry that needs investigating.
