The firmware for BE200 iwlwifi-gl-b0-fm-b0 for linux is still missing.

Does anyone know if firmware for Linux is still being developed here?

it seems that there are different "BE200 Chips", the  "iwlwifi-gl-b0-fm-b0" is not supported.

Various websites claim that support is available here, but that is not true.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005511/wireless.html

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/230078/intel-wifi-7-be200/downloads.html

https://wireless.docs.kernel.org/en/latest/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi.html

If someone have news let me know.

Hello tom123456,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

To assist you effectively, could you please provide the following information:

  1. Are you using a laptop or desktop computer?
  2. Is this a new installation that never worked, or was it previously functioning and recently stopped?
  3. Have you tested with the latest stable kernel release?
  4. Is this the original Wi-Fi adapter that came with your system, or have you recently installed/replaced it?
  5. Could you share an SSU (System Support Utility) log file for further analysis?

This information will help us better understand your setup and provide more targeted assistance.

Linux* process

1) Download the Intel® System Support Utility for the Linux* operating system and save the ssu.tar.gz file to your system.

2) Extract the ssu.sh file from ssu.tar.gz and save to your system.

3) To run the ssu.sh script from a Linux* terminal, Open Applications->Accessories->Terminal.

4) From the current directory, navigate to the current folder where the ssu.sh file resides. For example, if you saved the ssu.sh file to a folder called SSU File, the command would be cd SSU File.

5) Run the ssu.sh file using this command: ./ssu.sh <parameter=0|1> where 0 = off and 1 = enabled.

6) Use the parameter definitions included in the readme to determine which parameter to use.

Note: If no parameter is specified and only ./ssu.sh is run, it captures all system information with the exception of 3rd party logs that must be specified.

  • If no output file is specified, the Intel System Support Utility writes the output to the <systemname>.txt file.

7) You can view or open the output file in most text editors. However, view the file in a word processing software, such as WordPad*, for better formatted viewing. In addition, the Intel® System Support Utility for Windows can open the output file, which provides you with the capability of viewing the Linux information in an easy-to-view user interface.

Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,

JeanetteC.

Here the answers:

To assist you effectively, could you please provide the following information:

  1. Are you using a laptop or desktop computer?
    1. I'm using a laptop.
  2. Is this a new installation that never worked, or was it previously functioning and recently stopped?
    1.  I replaced the chip on the motherboard.
  3. Have you tested with the latest stable kernel release?
    1. Yes, I use Suse Tumbleweed.
  4. Is this the original Wi-Fi adapter that came with your system, or have you recently installed/replaced it?
    1. No, i bought a new one, and replaced the chip on the board.
  5. Could you share an SSU (System Support Utility) log file for further analysis?
    1. SSU not support, Suse Tumbleweed, but it still works.
    2. SSU.sh have an old package name for the route command. The route command can now be found in "iproute2". And I think that the route command would be particularly interesting. I wrote the correcte package name in the ssu.sh

Best regards

Thomas

Hello tom123456,

Please review the following important information:

1) Important Regulatory and Compatibility Notice: Before proceeding, please be aware that wireless hardware installation or upgrades must comply with regulatory requirements. Additionally, compatibility issues may arise due to hardware or software dependencies.

Source: Regulatory Information Regarding Wireless Hardware Installation or Upgrade

2) Regarding Your System Configuration: Based on your SSU log file, your system device is equipped with Intel® Celeron® CPU 877 (launched in July 2012), and appears to be a legacy platform that was originally equipped with older wireless standards (802.11b, 802.11g, Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) and has been upgraded to a Wi-Fi 7 BE200 adapter.

3) Compatibility Concerns: While the BE200 is supported in Linux through our drivers (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/824804/intel-wireless-wi-fi-drivers-for-linux.html) and kernel documentation (https://wireless.docs.kernel.org/en/latest/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi.html), legacy systems from 2012 may not be fully compatible with modern WiFi 7 hardware due to:

  • Hardware limitations
  • BIOS/UEFI compatibility
  • Power delivery requirements
  • PCIe interface versions

I recommend contacting your system OEM to:

  • Confirm BE200 compatibility with your specific platform
  • Verify which wireless upgrade components are officially supported
  • Ensure proper regulatory compliance

This will help you confirm hardware incompatibility and determine the most suitable wireless solution for your legacy system.

Sincerely,

JeanetteC.

Hey,

this is not helpful.

I just search for the firmware

iwlwifi-gl-b0-fm-b0

for a linux Kernel. Not more.

Do you have a firmware for iwlwifi-gl-b0-fm-b0?

Do you still work on it or not?

Do you know someone who I can ask for it?

Point #1

Yes I know, and I do.

Point #2

Yes, it's an old laptop, but if you want I can put the chip into a new laptop, for a different ssu file, does it change the something for the firmware?

Point #3

What do you mean? All is fine with the laptop, only the wifi Chip needs a firmware work, not more.

Do you recommend contacting my system oem, do you thing the laptop OEM make firmware for wifi moduls from intel?

Dear Intel support team,

the driver for this revision of the chip is out in the Linux kernel, which documents Intel's commitment to support this card. I have five of these cards waiting to go into different laptops for the family, mostly because you claim the card is supported under Linux, and none of them work because the firmware is unavailable.

Please provide the firmware files. I'm more than happy to move to the latest driver version. You said Linux is supported, so please support it.

Continued silence on your part does not bode well. We all understand that hardware has quirks (and may not work with a particular chipset/cpu/...), and can be difficult to work with. But not even giving an estimate or indication if these cards will ever be supported is not good. Asking what hardware they are going to be running with is just evasion - the firmware needs to be available irrespective of the machine the card will go into, or the wifi cards won't ever work. I honestly ask myself why I spent that money if I can't trust the manufacturer's word about support for a particular operating system. My opinion of Intel is definitely lower than it used to be as a result of this little episode.

Kind regards,

Manuel

JeanetteC.

Please answer something already.

1. Are you working on a problem or have you buried your head in the sand?

2. You have enough qualifications, or maybe you should invite a more qualified employee who can solve this problem. Should I at least try to do something?

3. People want to get a simple answer: Is Intel going to support its hardware, or can we can throw it away and go to another vendor?

We've been waiting for at least some kind of response for a month now. It is unacceptable for an employee of a corporation of this level to hide from a problem.
