Intel BE2001 — 6GHz Hotspot not working in Windows 11 24H2 despite GUI support

Hi everyone,
I'm testing the Intel BE2001 Wi-Fi 7 adapter on Windows 11 24H2 (build 26120.5770). The system shows full support for 6GHz in client mode, and the Mobile Hotspot GUI (enabled via ViVeTool) allows selecting the 6GHz band.
However, when I try to activate the hotspot, I get the error:
“Unable to set up mobile hotspot.”
Here’s what I’ve confirmed:
• Adapter: Intel BE2001 Wi-Fi 7 (322MHz)
• Driver: Official Intel driver (netwbe.inf, version 1.1.0.78)
• OS: Windows 11 24H2, GUI shows 6GHz hotspot option
• → Status: Unavailable
• INF file lacks or entries
• Region: Ukraine — 6GHz is legally permitted
So far, everything points to the driver not implementing SoftAP on 6GHz, even though the hardware and OS are ready. I’m wondering:
• Is SoftAP on 6GHz planned for future Intel driver releases?
• Are there any test builds or OEM versions where this is already enabled?
• Can this be manually enabled via INF modification or registry?
Any insights or early driver links would be appreciated. I’m happy to test and provide feedback.

For me to better understand and diagnose the issue further, let me ask you to provide detailed responses to the following questions. This information will help me isolate the problem and determine the most appropriate course of action moving forward.


  1. What is the brand and model of the system?
  2. Let me also check, did you manually install this BE2001 on the system as upgrade or is it embedded on the system?
  3. What are the troubleshooting steps that you tried so far?
  4. For me to review the hardware and the installed driver, please help generate the SSU logs of the system. Kindly refer to the link below on how to generate the logs:

This laptop ASUS Vivobook S 5406S, BE201 in original configuration. With help Copilot i tested all need parameters, reg keys, check regional permissions, any driver's version, from asus site support and intel site. In settings present 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz, but i can turn on AP only if select range 2.4.

  1. Was it working fine before?
  2. If yes, what was the last change made before the issue started?
  3. Upon checking SSU, you are using driver version 23.160.0.4. Did you download this driver from Intel website?
  4. Let me check, have you also tried to download and install the latest wireless driver from the manufacturer of your laptop?
  5. Can you share some screenshots of the issue?

1. Initially this feature was not available. I installed the beta version through a pre-assessment program windows. After that, the choice of 5 and 6 GHz appeared
2.
3. SSU check was run with driver downloaded from intel site
4. I tried both the original asus driver, and downloaded from intel site, several different versions.
5. At the moment I can’t provide you with a screenshot, but - I can choose all necessary settings - ok. But as soon as I turn on the access point, I get a message in the same window where and all the settings of the AP - "Unable to set up mobile hotspot" also when selecting 5Ghz. Only by selecting 2.4, with all similar settings, the AP is enabled.
