Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 3160 Replacement

Hello Intel,

I purchased a laptop 10 years ago, still working well, but my WiFi is not working well. Most of the time, I loose Internet connection while it is currently working on my phone for example. I detect the WiFi but it says "no Internet detected". Sometimes it works, but most of the time I loose the connection. I would like to replace the cheap (I understand that after 10years the chip is too old). My question is : With which product can be compatible for a replacement with a decent price ? I am meeting difficulties to find the same chip, because it has been replaced by more modern product. The laptop is a TERRA MOBILE 1529H.

This is a little problematic as Intel is no longer producing its latest series of WLAN adapters in this formfactor. All is not lost; there are 3rd-parties that are taking the Intel Silicon and putting it onto cards with this formfactor. Here are some examples:

Note that these are examples. I chose them purely for being more-widely available (because available through Amazon). I have not tested these particular modules. The modules that I have tested are as follows:

I have tested these in both a 6th gen laptop (Core i5-6200U) and in a 4th gen desktop (Core i7-4770) using a PCIe x1 carrier card.

If I may reopen this thread, I have an old laptop which I would like to upgrade, below follows its specifications:

  • Product name: S14BW01;
  • Processor type: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU N3060 @ 1.60GHz;
  • Wireless card: Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 3160NGW.

The recommended options for the NGW are also valid for my model?

Yes, they certainly are. But, understand that the 3100 Series, 7200 Series and most of the 8000 Series modules and cards are discontinued and no longer supported by Intel.

  • If you want to stick with Wireless-AC support, the Wireless-AC 9260 (9260NGW) is your best bet (there are others, but their performance is lower).
  • The better tier (IMHO) is that of the Wireless-AX modules. The AX200 (AX200NGW) gives you support for WiFI 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, The AX210 (AX210NGW) gives you support for WiFi 6e (i.e. the 6.0 GHz band) and Bluetooth 5.3. Both are backwards compatible with WiFi 5 and Wireless-AC, so no concerns there.
  • While I haven't played with one to be comfortable recommending it as yet, there is also the BE200 (BE200NGW) module, which takes you into the realm of WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. [ASIDE: It is the ridiculous cost of the corresponding routers that is preventing me from making this transition.]

I just bought an AX210 and installed it in my laptop motherboard, however I am having some issues with it: the OS simply does not recognize it. Beforehand, I attach the description of my machine below.
 
- Product name: S14BW01;

It should, but I cannot attest to that at present. I have a module on order and should be able to update you later this week (I will be testing its backward compatibility with WiFi 5 and WiFi 6 routers).

Sorry about that; been busy offline.
Anyway, I have the card mounted on card carrier and plugged into system with a 4th Gen./8 Series motherboard. It worked just fine with my WiFi6 routers. I still need to verify with an older WiFi5 router; will have to update about this (though I don't foresee any issues occurring).
I did have some problems with Bluetooth. I could not get my headphones to attach. I uninstalled the Bluetooth package (again), went into Device Manager and manually deleted all of the hidden entries for my headphones, rebooted, reinstalled the Bluetooth package and it connected fine after that.
