Try using Device Manager to remove the network adapter and check the box to uninstall the driver. Then restart the PC just to be sure nothing is lingering or no install or setup that was malfunctioning is still there. Then reinstall the driver.
You don't say if this is a desktop or laptop, and what brand of motherboard. It is worth the time to see if the manufacturer has a specific driver for that motherboard.
