Hello CMurr15,
To better assist you, please provide us with the following information:
Please generate a system report with the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) and attach the report directly to this thread.
- Intel® SSU Download link
- Open the application and click on "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel® SSU takes you to the "Summary View".
- Click on "Summary" to change to a "Detailed View".
- To save your scan, click on "Next", then "Save".
- When did it start to happen?
- Is this the original adapter that came pre-installed in your system or have you changed/installed a new adapter recently?
- Have you rebooted your access-point, router, modem?

2mth ago, I changed to an ethernet connection, this started ok the went strange; I tried returning to wifi but it has never maintained a continuous connection, it keeps dropping when on any site, or moving between sites. Not changed adapter only added ethernet cable. Rebooted/reset router a number of times - it doesn't hold instruction for automatic wifi connection, just one of the issues when trying to reconnect; sometime no wifi to find; even though other pc's are all ok?? Hope you can help, before wife that uses pc goes for the hammer! Tx Wanner

Hello CMurr15,
Thank you for your response.
To make sure this is not being caused by driver conflict, please perform a Clean Installation of Wireless Drivers: Both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
Step 1: Get the latest system-specific drivers
- Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Intel® Wireless 7260 Family --18.33.17.1
- Intel® Wireless Bluetooth® for Intel® Wireless 7260 Family and Intel® Dual-Band Wireless-AC 3160
Step 2: Uninstall your Wi-Fi driver.
Windows* may have an inbox Wi-Fi driver for your wireless adapter. You can't uninstall an inbox driver (you won't see the "Delete the driver software for this device" option). Proceed to the next step if you start seeing the same version of the driver installed automatically after it’s uninstalled.
- Go to Device Manager.
- Expand the Network Adapters category.
- Right-click your Intel Wireless Adapter/Bluetooth and choose to uninstall it.
- Make sure to select the option to Delete the driver software for this device.
- Restart your computer.
Step 3: Driver installation.
Locate the driver you downloaded back in Step 1. Run as administrator, and follow the wizard to completion.
Also, try using the Recommended Settings for 802.11ac Connectivity
If the issue persists, please provide us with the following details:
- Are the computer and router/AP using 802.11ac? What is the model number of the router/AP?
- According to the report, the model number of your computer is HP Pavilion Desktop - 550-290na, but the manufacturer's website does not list a driver for the Intel® Wireless Adapter. Could you please confirm if the computer came with another adapter?
