iwlwifi linux driver reboot(crush) on Raspberry Pi5 with WiFi7 BE200

We are using a Raspberry Pi 5 to perform Wi-Fi communication with a BE200 module.
The Wi-Fi connection itself works without any issues, but at a certain point, the iwlwifi Wi-Fi driver restarts.
I’ve attached the log output from when this occurred.
Could you determine what might be happening based on this log?

Raspberry Pi OS Linux version: 6.12.57-v8-16k+
iwlwifi firmware version: Core92? : 92.67ce4588.0 gl-c0-fm-c0-92.ucode
System error log : SystemErrorLog.txt

Hi YNishikawa,

Thank you for contacting Intel regarding the iwlwifi driver restart issue you're experiencing with the BE200 module on your Raspberry Pi 5. I understand how concerning it can be when the Wi-Fi driver restarts unexpectedly, even though the connection itself is working properly.

To better assist you with this analysis, could you please provide additional system specifications such as your complete hardware configuration, memory details, and any other relevant system information? If you're not comfortable sharing this information publicly in the forum, you can send it via private email.

Additionally, have you contacted Raspberry Pi support regarding this issue? Since this involves the BE200 module operating on a Raspberry Pi 5 platform, they may have specific insights about hardware compatibility or known issues with this particular configuration.

Hi, Dean R.,

The hardware configuration is as follows:

  • Host: Raspberry Pi 5
  • DRAM: 8MB
  • PCIe: Mcuzone MPW7: PCIe to M.2 E-key WiFi7 HAT for Raspberry Pi 5
  • eMMC: 32GB

Since this setup uses existing hardware, the information available is limited to the above.

We are also in contact with Raspberry Pi support.
We are checking if there is any additional information, but we have not received a satisfactory response yet.

Thank you.

Hi YNishikawa,

Thank you for providing the hardware configuration details. I can see you're using a Raspberry Pi 5 with 8GB DRAM, a Mcuzone MPW7 PCIe to M.2 E-key WiFi7 HAT, and 32GB eMMC storage with the BE200 module.

I appreciate you sharing that you're already in contact with Raspberry Pi support regarding this issue. Since this involves a complex hardware setup with multiple components, coordinating with the various hardware manufacturers will be important for identifying the root cause of the iwlwifi driver restarts.

Please keep me updated on any findings or responses you receive from Raspberry Pi support, as this information will help me provide more targeted assistance for the BE200 module specifically.

Best regards,

Hi Von M.,

Sorry for the delayed response.
I checked the Raspberry Pi forum at "https://forums.raspberrypi.com" to see if the same issue had occurred.
There was a question reporting a similar error, but I couldn’t find any answers providing a solution.
As a result, it seems the issue remains unresolved.

Best regards,

YNishikawa.

Hello YNishikawa,

Thank you for getting back to me, and no worries at all about the delay. It’s helpful to know that a similar issue was reported, but that no confirmed solution has been provided so far. This gives us a clearer picture that the behavior may not be isolated to your setup and could be related to how the Raspberry Pi 5 handles the iwlwifi driver with this hardware combination.

When the iwlwifi restart occurs, what activity is happening on the Wi-Fi interface? Does the issue occur immediately after boot, or only after sustained operation? This helps differentiate thermal/power issues from firmware crashes.

Does the issue happen when using a different driver or an earlier firmware version? Knowing whether earlier firmware behaves differently helps identify regression bugs.

Hi YNishikawa,

Thank you for contacting Intel support regarding your Wi-Fi connectivity issues. After reviewing your case details, I have identified that your Intel® Wi-Fi 7 BE200 wireless adapter is currently running an incorrect firmware version.

Current Issue: Your wireless adapter is currently using firmware version 92.67ce4588.0 gl-c0-fm-c0-92, which is not the appropriate firmware for your Intel® Wi-Fi 7 BE200 device.

To resolve this issue, please update your wireless adapter firmware to the correct version:

  • iwlwifi-gl-c0-fm-c0-101 and iwlwifi-gl-c0-fm-c0. pnvm

Please download the correct firmware files from the official Linux firmware repository: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/iwlwifi

Installing the correct firmware should resolve your Wi-Fi connectivity issues. If you continue to experience problems after updating the firmware, please don't hesitate to contact us again.

Best regards,

Hi there,

What specifically is the issue with firmware version 92.67ce4588.0 gl-c0-fm-c0-92 for the Intel BE200? I have a system that is using that firmware version and Wifi functionality does work. Also, what issues does the 101 firmware solve?

Hi, JeanetteC.,

From the GitHub below, how should I configure the kernel to obtain the iwlwifi driver and integrate it into Linux on a Raspberry Pi?
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/iwlwifi/linux-firmware.git/
Which of the following approaches should I choose?

  1. Is it sufficient to build the kernel with the settings shown in the attached image?
  2. Should I configure the kernel to load blob files such as ucode and then build the kernel?

<atached image>

I am using a Raspberry Pi 5 and an Intel BE200. In that case, can I still use the ucode files provided by Intel as they are?

Best regards,

YNishikawa.

Hi, JeanetteC.,

I changed the kernel version to "6.18.0-v8-16k" and updated the iwlwifi firmware to the latest Core98. However, after the kernel booted, I checked the iwlwifi status using the dmesg command and encountered the following error:

-------------------
> sudo dmesg | grep iwlwifi

[ 6.559032] iwlwifi 0001:01:00.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)
[ 6.561192] iwlwifi 0001:01:00.0: Detected crf-id 0x2001910, cnv-id 0x2001910 wfpm id 0x80000000
[ 6.561252] iwlwifi 0001:01:00.0: PCI dev 272b/00f4, rev=0x472, rfid=0x112200
[ 6.611615] iwlwifi 0001:01:00.0: probe with driver iwlwifi failed with error -22

>

-------------------

Is there anything we can infer from this?

Best regards,
YNishikawa.
