Can anyone tell me the type of network adapter/card I should get to run wifi on my Windows XP SP2, P4 computer? It has a D915GAV motherboard.

Hello In2350,

I would like to start by mentioning that this type of system is outdated and support for it is very limited. Interactive support would not be available in case there were any issues during installation.

The Intel® Desktop Board D915GAV has reached End of Interactive support: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/dsktpboards/d915gav http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/dsktpboards/d915gav

Microsoft has ended support for Windows XP®: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/WindowsForBusiness/end-of-xp-support Windows XP End of Support

Having clarified this, there are two legacy adapters that would be possible matches for your system (PCIe x1 and Windows XP®):

- Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6205 for Desktop: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/centrino-advanced-n-6205-desktop-brief.html Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6205 for Desktop: Product Brief

- Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 2200 for Desktops: https://www-ssl.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/centrino-advanced-n-2200-desktop-brief.html Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 2200 for Desktops: Product Brief

Hello In2350,

As you mentioned, using a USB WiFi adapter is another option, just make sure it supports Microsoft Windows XP* and USB 2.0. However, Intel does not manufacture this type of adapters at this time.

I will try to get one at The Source or one of those places that has any that supports XP and USB 2.0. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me .

Great job!

Update: I chose to use the USB adapter instead and it's working fine.

thanks again. Now I need to post a question about booting from a usb iso.
