I'm trying to run this on Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit but so far a totally no go.

see this thread:

(Sorry I'm not allowed to post links yet)

I have tried out all solutions in similar posts (not very many) and none of these have worked so far.

i can't figure out weather it's the software release or something in my own configuration, so please tell if the altera cdi gdb debugger 10.0sp1 release works on your system in nios ii sbt ...thanks..

I have successfully used the Nios II SBT for Eclipse debugger under Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Although, I frequently run into an issue (discussed in this other thread) (http://www.alteraforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24710) which requires me to delete my debug configuration and recreate it on a regular basis.

You may get more useful responses if you give more details about your problem. Do you get a specific error message? What exact steps are you taking?

Well thanks for your reply:

I posted a request earlier which so far has given no replies(maybe too informative ?) so I made this tread just to get the ball rolling(sorry for the double post), I still can't post links(until my 5.th post) but you can search for the (maybe not to good to gain interrest) title:

error creating session {r,t}xthread terminated w nios ii sbt debugger

Could you be so kind as to place a link to this post ?

or a link to this in the other post ?

Well I have had only one hardware configuration and it works fine as run configuration, uploading and running software works just fine, so I'm not too much for deleting that.

So I tried creating a new debug configuration instead, this didn't change the outcome.

I keep getting these messeges in my error log:

I don't know if this is related... this is accnowledge as a known bug in eratata and "should be fixed soon".

Solution 1.

After every debug session, delete all terminated session

Solution 2.

Run Nios II under Windows XP compatible mode

Thanks for your input

made me try this:

run in xp sp3 compatibility mode.

--> no luck debugging

--> switch to debug perspektive --> delete all sessions -->

now new error:

nios2-download: error: wrapper script can only download one file at a time

--> Delete both hardware configurations --> restart create new hardware configuration --> restart

---

Then used a bit time looking tru my usage log:

/* ---- this must be the wrapper error about only one file at once because it's connecting to the wrong usb device port ---*/

error,log,,,"Failed Executing: [nios2-download, '--cable=USB-Blaster on localhost [USB-0]', --device=1, --instance=0, --sidp=Not Found, --id=Not Found, --timestamp=Not Found] return code: 16",1291574497915

/* --- ---/

---

actually a step back debug failed before being able to upload software due to finding the wrong usbblaster device.

--(fix. seen in a thread elsewhere on this forum)(sorry still no links possible)!..

Found the log point from the Tx Tx session terminated error:

Not that I understand much of this but i notice:

something X11 crashing before each debug session ?

+

Would it be advisable to try replacing the

com.altera.debug.cdi.gdb.plugin

And with what ?

Oh BTW I have so far neglectable problems uploading, and running software, programming devices, and flashing cfi flash and epcs devices. So I'm confident its not a hardware problem...

Well creating a full new windowsinstallation gave way for getting the debugger to work. (also in 10.1 which I have changed to meanwhile) :-)

! updating Eclipse managed to reproduce the problem. :-(

reverting the update --> debug works again.

installing plugin for Vault versioning system --> same old Rx Tx connection failure:

so right now seems like installing any kind of eclipse plugin or update breaks the debugger on my pc.

next is to try and see if the java runtime (jre-6u21-windows-i586-s) updated to v22, is the source of this bad situation.

Thanks for this post! I had installed Subclipse and that broke things with the debugger. I was getting all kinds of weird errors trying to use it. I did some poking around and found this thread... re-installed Eclipse (without adding any plugins) and now things are working again.
