Disk write/read time on Linux

Hi,
Is there a way to get average time/disk write or average time/disk read in Linux without using VTune? I am using RH AS 2.1 U3.

On the linux side, hmmm...
...not sure. Anybody out there using some software they can recommend to answer this question?
