How come misses > references?

Can you explain how come the Sampling results show that I have one instruction whose L3_MISSES is greater than its L3_REFERENCES.
The numbers are L3_REFERENCES - 9000, and L3_MISSES - 45000.

The two events were collected on a IPF machine, in the same run.
