Several analyses fail in vtune

Hi,

I am trying to run vTune on a Windows Server 2019 system (Xeon Silver 4310 processor) without a GPU.

I already have it successfully running on an almost identical server equipped with a Xeon Silver 4210R. However, when running on the 4310-based system, several tests cannot be performed. When running the vtune-self-checker tool, this is the overall result:

The following analyses have failed on the system:
* Hotspots with HW event-based sampling, HPC Performance Characterization, etc.
* Microarchitecture Exploration
* Memory Access
* GPU Compute/Media Hotspots (characterization mode)
* GPU Compute/Media Hotspots (source analysis mode)

This is the identical error type returned for the failing tests:

HW event-based analysis check (Intel driver)
Example of analysis types: Hotspots with HW event-based sampling, HPC Performance Characterization, etc.
Collection: Ok
Finalization: Ok...
Report: Fail
vtune: Error: 0x40000024 (No data) -- No data is collected. Possible reasons:
- Workload is too small. No samples are collected.
- The application environment is not specified correctly.
- The executable file has been stripped so cannot be profiled with algorithm analysis types.
See the Troubleshooting help topic for more details.
Also consider checking the collection log for additional information.

ample-sepreg.exe -c gives the following output:

Checking platform...
Platform is genuine Intel: OK
Platform has SSE2: OK
Platform architecture: INTEL64
User has admin rights: OK
Drivers will be installed to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\
Checking sepdrv5 driver path...OK
Checking sepdrv5 service...
Driver status: the sepdrv5 service is running
Checking sepdal driver path...OK
Checking sepdal service...
Driver status: the sepdal service is running
Checking socperf3 driver path...OK
Checking socperf3 service...
Driver status: the socperf3 service is running

Any ideas on what could be the issue?

BR, Klaus

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities. We have escalated this issue to the concerned team and we will get back to you with an update. Meanwhile, could you please try uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, with the below commands, and see if the issue still persists?

  • Navigate to this path(C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\oneAPI\vtune\latest\bin64) and run below commands to uninstall and reinstall drivers
  • Uninstalling drivers:
amplxe-sepreg.exe -u
  • Reinstalling Drivers:
amplxe-sepreg.exe -i

Hi,

We could see similar errors while running as non-admin in Windows 11. Could you please run self-checker in Administrator CMD shell?

Also, after running setvars script("\Program Files (x86)\Intel\oneAPI\setvars.bat"), try the below command and verify no error are reported an a non-empty out.tb7 file is created.

sep -start -d 10 -out out

Please let us know if the issue still persists.

If this resolves your issue, make sure to accept this as solution. This helps others with similar issue. Thanks!

Regards,

Alekhya
