VTune performance-snapshot crashes with "Assertion failed: res != TPSS_FALSE"

Hi!

On my machine both "performance-snapshot" and "memory access" crashes with:

Assertion failed: res != TPSS_FALSE
file: vcs/perfrun1/plugins/system/src/benchmark.cpp:758

Other types of collections work fine.

Attached self-checker-report, which shows failures. OS is Ubuntu 21.10.

Sampling drivers are loaded correctly:

$ ./insmod-sep -q
pax driver is loaded and owned by group "vtune" with file permissions "660".
socperf3 driver is loaded and owned by group "vtune" with file permissions "660".
sep5 driver is loaded and owned by group "vtune" with file permissions "660".

socwatch driver is loaded and owned by group "vtune" with file permissions "660".

vtsspp driver is loaded and owned by group "vtune" with file permissions "660".

Probably something is wrong with my environment, but I have no idea where to look at.

Any ideas how to fix it?

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

We tried the same in Ubuntu 21.10 using VTune 2022.1.0. We were able to run all the applications successfully. Attaching the screenshot of self checker for your reference.

Could you please uninstall and install the VTune and try to run the same again.

If the issue still persist please let us know.

Thanks

I tried to reinstall VTune (even used newer version 2022.2.0-nda), but still saw the same assertion (but with a little bit different line number now):

  Assertion failed: res != TPSS_FALSE
  file: vcs/perfrun1/plugins/system/src/benchmark.cpp:747

Attached new self-checker log file if it could help to understand the problem.

Also what is the correct way of uninstalling VTune? I just run "sudo rm -rf /opt/intel/oneapi/" - not sure if VTune also stores additional information somewhere.

Hi,

We could see that you are using nda version of VTune. Please let us know whether you have priority support ?

Thanks

No, I don't have a priority support.

Nda version was downloaded automatically by the installer, I haven't done anything special to get it. Initial failure was on usual 2022.01 version.

Hi,

Could you please share the link from where you downloaded the VTune.

We could see that you got nda version. Those who got nda version will have priority support and those can raise ticket in https://software.intel.com/content/www/us/en/develop/support/priority-support.html

Thanks

Hey!

Sorry, it's been a while since I posted this question, so unfortunately I don't remember which link I used to download the installer.

Since then I have already updated my Ubuntu to version 22.04 and reinstalled a bunch of software (including VTune). Some of it helped and currently VTune works fine for me, so I can't help with reproducing this error anymore.

Anyway, thanks for investigating!
