disappointing second impression - "Parse Aborted" error

After starting vtlec, a window appears on the left that says: "Tuning activities". Below that is a hyperlink "First Use".

When I click on it, nothing happens and the following error message is displayed on the console.

Parse Aborted: Encountered "=" at line 166, column 13.
Was expecting one of:
...
...


Then eclipse becomes unresponsive and needs to be force killed. Upon restart, when I click on the same link, the "First Use' wizard appears.

Are these glitches normal/to be expected?
