Elizabeth Shipley is Public Affairs Director for Arizona and Latin America, directing Intel’s government affairs, community engagement and media relations. Ms. Shipley serves on the boards of Expect More Arizona and the East Valley Partnership. Before joining Intel, she was Executive Director, Communications and Board Services at Albuquerque Public Schools.
Our Arizona community is stepping up in a big way to support those in need – from first responders, to health workers, governments, and nonprofits delivering essential services to families around the state. It’s inspiring to see us all pull together during this time.
If you’re looking for a way to get involved, here are three ways we’re encouraging our Arizona employees to step up:
- Donating funds: The Intel Foundation has established a special donation matching campaign to amplify the contributions of our employees. Intel employees who donate to the Arizona Community Foundation ‘Arizona COVID-19 Community Response Fund,’ Valley of the Sun United Way ‘United for the Valley COVID-19 Fund,’ For Our City – Chandler, and other designated organizations around the world will have their donations matched, up to a total of $2 million.
- Volunteering time: Nonprofits, educators, and students can all benefit from virtual volunteers’ skills and expertise. You can participate in important projects such as keeping students engaged in their education by becoming a mentor, helping a small business stay afloat by offering your financial advice, or assisting a nonprofit in communicating their message over social media. We’ve compiled a list of volunteer opportunities that can be done at home with Arizona-based organizations like Experience Matters AZ, Neighbors Who Care, Maricopa County Educator Pro Connect, and more.
- Giving used equipment: As our communities navigate the transition to virtual work and learning, populations with limited access to technology are disproportionately affected. Our partners at Arizona Students Recycling Used Technology (AZStRUT) need our help to address the rapid increase of technology donation requests they have received. We’re encouraging our employees to donate their personal gently used laptops, tablets, cell phones, and computers.
In addition to this employee call to action, Intel and the Intel Foundation are donating $1,000,000 to the Arizona Community Foundation to bolster their efforts to support nonprofits across the state providing direct assistance to economically vulnerable individuals and families impacted by COVID-19 in Arizona. If you're an Arizona nonprofit interested in applying for this funding, visit the Arizona Community Foundation website. And, an Intel donation of 80,000 surgical masks was delivered to the Arizona Department of Health just yesterday; they’ll be distributing them to health workers and first responders throughout the state. We also sent over 700 coverall gowns that were sitting in our warehouse to Dignity Health and the Chandler Fire Department.
It is our hope that by supporting the efforts of our local partners, we can help our community in the most meaningful way as we all do our part to address COVID-19. We are inspired to be surrounded by so many dedicated people and nonprofits that are rapidly mobilizing to care for Arizonans. Our contributions are made with sincere gratitude for their incredible spirit, care, and fortitude in this time of need.
