Cell Site Router based on Agilex™ 7
Communications Service Providers (CoSPs) are seeking enhanced scalability and operational efficiencies in 5G deployments. Altera has created a low-cost and low-power “Pizza Box” platform based on Agilex-7 FPGAs for the Cell Site Router market. This 1RU Pizzabox is mountable on a 19-inch rack and provides Layer 2 and Layer 3 services across Front Haul and Mid Haul ports. Routing software runs on the Agilex Hard Processor Subsystem in the FPGA, thereby not requiring any additional provisioned CPU cores. The DCSG FPGA solution leverages Altera’s P4 Suite for FPGA, including HQoS IP, Search IP (Access Control List and Longest Prefix Match), and full stack 1588 capabilities. At IMC, Altera will have the platform on display.
AI/ML demo (synflood attack detection)
Flood attacks, a type of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, aim to overwhelm servers, making them unable to handle legitimate connections. These attacks (such as TCP/SYN-flood, IP-flood, UDP-flood with SYN-flood) are particularly disruptive in multi-tenant environments, where an attack on one tenant can affect others sharing the same server. Mitigation strategies for external attacks typically involve using edge data center firewalls integrated with the service provider's load balancer. Internal attacks, however, pose a greater challenge due to the lack of firewalls in multi-tenant data centers. Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solutions, combined with Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) with AI/ML capabilities and Altera’s P4 Suite for FPGA, offer a robust approach by moving firewalls closer to user data, enabling better detection and protection. At IMC, we will show a joint demo between Altera and Codilime using Altera’s FPGAs showcasing the SASE use-case implementation, highlighting the effectiveness of AI in detecting and mitigating SYN-flood attacks through advanced machine learning algorithms.
