Intel and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have unveiled a groundbreaking new offering: the Amazon EC2 U7inh instance powered by Intel 4th Generation Xeon platform. This new instance is designed to meet the demanding needs of the largest SAP Landscapes, providing customers with a powerful and efficient solution for running SAP applications in the cloud.
“At AWS, we’re committed to delivering the most powerful and innovative cloud infrastructure to our customers,” said Matt Garman, CEO and AWS. “By co-developing next-generation AI fabric chips on Intel 18A, we continue our long-standing collaboration, dating back to 2006 when we launched the first Amazon EC2 instance featuring their chips. Our continued collaboration allows us to empower our joint customers with the ability to run any workload and unlock new AI capabilities.”
The new instance is specifically designed for scale-up configurations for the largest SAP Landscapes, offering a robust and scalable option for running SAP in the cloud. This development provides these organizations with a new, highly reliable option to support their extensive SAP workloads, ensuring seamless integration and operation within AWS's virtualized environment.
One of the most significant advancements of the Amazon EC2 U7inh instance, which is certified and available in the SAP Hardware Directory, is the increased number of vCPUs and the maximum memory capacity of 32TB. Intel is proud that AWS has chosen 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors for this new instance. This provides leading-edge performance and scalability combined with various additions that Intel developed particularly for SAP workloads, like the Intel® AVX-512 Accelerator.
This enhancement ensures that SAP customers have access to very large scale-up configurations, that provide the necessary performance and scalability, especially for the SAP S4/HANA platform. This is a crucial step for handling the extensive data processing needs of our joint SAP customers.
The Amazon EC2 U7inh instance comes with SAP standard-sizing certification, which guarantees that the instances meet SAP’s stringent requirements for performance, memory, and other critical metrics. This certification significantly reduces the time and effort required for customers to implement and deploy their SAP solutions on AWS, as it assures compliance with SAP’s high standards.
Despite operating in a virtualized environment, the Amazon EC2 U7inh instance delivers performance comparable to bare metal. This ensures that customers do not have to compromise on performance while benefiting from the flexibility and scalability of a virtualized infrastructure.
“This expansion of our longtime relationship with AWS reflects the strength of our process technology and delivers differentiated solutions for customer workloads,” said Justin Hotard, Executive VP at Intel. “Intel’s chip design and manufacturing capabilities, combined with the comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud, AI and machine learning services of AWS, will unleash innovation across our shared ecosystem and support the growth of both businesses, as well as a sustainable domestic AI supply chain.”
In summary, the collaboration between Intel and AWS to introduce the Amazon EC2 U7inh instance marks a significant milestone in cloud computing for SAP customers. With enhanced memory capabilities, new levels of security and privacy, targeted solutions for large enterprises, and certified performance, this new instance promises to deliver unparalleled efficiency, security, and reliability for running SAP applications in the cloud.
