I’m proud to share that today at VMworld we announced our leadership portfolio of SmartNICs will power VMware's next-generation infrastructure. Intel innovation in SmartNICs enables higher performance for edge nodes, network infrastructure and data center compute. This partnership, which we call Project Monterey, delivers a more flexible system and ultimately provides a total cost of ownership (TCO) advantage.

“We’re delighted to be working with Intel on Project Monterey. Intel and VMware have a long history working together on hardware and software datacenter innovation and Project Monterey promises an agile, accelerated, and secure datacenter that will meet the needs of modern applications.”

-Paul Turner, VP, Product Management, vSphere, VMware.

Transforming Networking & Enhancing Security

Intel has a proven track record of technology innovation as the leading network controller and adapter provider. We’re bringing our technology expertise in network virtualization, storage services, and cryptographic data protection to our SmartNIC portfolio. Together with VMware, we will enable these capabilities while focusing on delivering increased value to customers with isolation, robust security and simplified system management.

This gives customers end-to-end visibility across storage, network and platforms. Intel technology enables VMware to give customers unified management of virtual machines, containers and bare metal environments.

Helping Customers Build Foundations for Digital Success

It’s exciting to advance our partnership with VMware to meet our customers’ biggest challenges. Companies are accelerating digital transformation and depend on modernized infrastructure to process the growing volume of data and convert it to business value. This is what makes our partnership with VMware so special – Together we provide IT organizations consistent infrastructure across any cloud environment with scale and agility.

Intel Select Solutions for VMware, Intel Xeon™ Scalable processors, Intel Optane™ persistent memory, Intel Ethernet Controllers, Network Adapters and SmartNIC offerings have all been optimized for VMware’s portfolio to help our customers succeed. Today’s announcement marks another strategic milestone for our partnership.

Value to the End Customer

Intel-VMware collaboration brings Telco, cloud and enterprise robust and validated SmartNIC platforms with proven leadership software and services. This results in higher packet performance for edge nodes and appliances, access to a common set of services, and improved latency SLA opportunities.
