Introduction
The cloud costs - a lot. Nowhere is this more true than in Data and Analytics. Isima’s bi(OS) and Intel’s oneAPI aim to tame it across all clouds. This blog will provide an overview of Isima’s bi(OS), its synergies with Intel oneAPI, and how customers can benefit from this unified solution.
bi(OS) - The middleware for data
Isima’s bi(OS) is a lean modern data stack to onboard, process, consume, and operate data using Clicks, Python, and SQL. Its hyper-converged architecture enables real-time use cases with a low-code framework. It allows a single data analyst to bring API, AI, and BI use cases to life in days, radically reducing time to value with the best price performance on the cloud.
bi(OS) acts as a data hub between Online Transaction Processing (OLTP), Online Analytical Processing (OLAP), and third-party software-as-a-service (SaaS) systems. bi(OS) includes no-code connectors to ingest data from OLTP systems (for example, MySQL), OLAP systems (for example, Snowflake), and third-party SaaS systems (for example, Google/Facebook Ads, CleverTap, and Google Tag Manager). Low latency micro-services, near-real-time analytics jobs, and ad-hoc queries can interface with bi(OS) via SQL-friendly Python, Java, and JavaScript SDKs.
oneAPI + bi(OS) - Taming Multi-cloud sprawl
oneAPI is a unified model and libraries for accelerated computing. It has been integrated with major ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and NumPy and packaged in various ways for all major Operating systems, including docker containers. As an Intel oneAPI for startups program member, Isima worked with Intel engineers to validate bi(OS) on Intel Cloud. The results were published late last year, and Isima was one of the startups featured at the launch of Intel Developer Cloud. Isima plans to work with the oneAPI team to certify oneAPI and bi(OS) for e-commerce workloads on next-generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors soon.
We have used bi(OS) for our real-time use cases for 2+ years. Soon, we will move significant compute-intensive workloads from our Data Lakehouse to bi(OS) to save on our cloud infrastructure costs. As part of that move, we are also excited to explore Intel's oneAPI-optimized versions of various Data Science libraries such as PyTorch, scikit-learn, etc. We expect these efforts to tame our Cloud Infrastructure costs by up to 60% while making our Data Analytics architecture more real-time.

Conclusion
Analytics is the killer cloud app. It also consumes the most resources — effort (people and time), data-center space, and watts — scarce resources in the current economic environment. Optimizing bits and human productivity can unleash a quantum leap in analytics impact, especially for industries that don’t have an ad-subsidized infinite checkbook to fund the cloud inefficiencies. This is what Intel + Isima are attempting to solve, to unleash a giant leap in cloud economics while helping the climate. oneAPI: A New Era of Accelerated Computing
oneAPI is an open, cross-architecture programming model and industry standard that frees developers to use a single code base across multiple architectures. The result is accelerated compute without vendor lock-in.
Intel’s implementation of oneAPI contains the following key components:
- Advanced compilers, libraries & analysis, debug & porting tools activate cutting-edge features of Intel CPUs, GPUs & FPGAs
- Intel® Advisor determines device target mix before developers write code
- Compilers recompile code to take advantage of device mix
- Intel® VTune™ Profiler analyzes hotspots to optimize codebase for best performance
- Extends compatibility from SYCL to C, C++, Python, Fortran, MPI, OpenMP
- Supports major deep learning & machine learning frameworks
About Isima
Isima.io, a unified analytics startup founded in 2016, aims to accelerate analytics outcomes for organizations. Isimia.io does this by combining multiple data management disciplines – including Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), Extract-Transform-Load (ETL), Enterprise-Data-Warehouse (EDW), and Business Intelligence (BI) – into one hyper-converged system. IT teams can only win by building differentiated, agile data apps. The current best practice mandates point solutions for onboarding, processing, consuming, and operating data. This fusion of glue-it-together SaaS tooling requires many months and an army of data engineers, architects, and scientists, which isn’t sustainable. Isima offers a solution to address this engineering challenge with its flagship product – bi(OS).
This project was carried out within Intel® oneAPI for Startups program. Intel® oneAPI for Startups is a free virtual startup accelerator program offered by Intel’s Software and Advanced Technology Group, designed to help early-stage tech startups on their path to innovation and growth. The primary mission is to inspire and empower startups with Intel’s leadership in technology. Isima joined the program in August 2022.
