Intel X557 5th channel connection with discrete magnetics

Hello,

we are connecting the X557-AT4 with discrete magnetics (integrated are not possible due to using different connector than RJ-45), and the datashet is not very clear on how to connect the  magnetics and termination properly for the 5th channel (see X557's datasheet at 9.1.3). No reference schematic has this implemented either, or better said, integrated magnetics (such as G13-152T used in the reference) do not reveal the circuit connection.

I did my best to make sense of the manual, and I came up with this circuit. Can you check if this schematic is done properly, the termination of channel D will work as intended and 5th channel will sense correct common-mode?

Also side question, how to acquire firmware for the X557? We have been denied IPS access multiple times for no stated reason and have been redirected to "distributors" - I very much doubt that e.g. Mouser will provide us with the firmware...

Thanks!

Hello @MarosM,

Thank you for contacting Intel Embedded Community.

You will have to validate this design by yourself, it seems fine but I don't have the information to assure you if it will work, also, Ethernet queries should be addressed by the Ethernet community, my apologies.

Regarding the IPS access, it may be best to look for an Intel Sales Representative near your zone.

They can help to make the request and help you with the NDA procedures needed to get access to the firmware that you need.

Best regards,

Hello Diego,

thank you for the information.

Design verification is ofcourse something we will do, I just wanted to check with you if I have interpreted datasheet's intention correctly regarding the extra transformer and additional termination. If the schematic really matches the datasheet's intent, that is all I need to know right now.
