No I225 Linux Driver (IGC) available?

Hello,

we would like to use the I225 Controller with a Linux Version 4.14 which does not natively support the IGC Driver that is required for this Controller. Usually we solve such driver issues by compiling the backported Version of this driver against our kernel ( for example https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/14687/Intel-Network-Adapter-Driver-for-PCIe-Intel-10-Gigabit-Ethernet-Network-Connections-Under-Linux ). But we were not able to find such a version of the IGC Driver in the download center.

The Complete Driver Pack which is displayed when clicking on the Driver Button on the Site of the I225 (https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/184676/intel-ethernet-controller-i225-v.html) also does not contain such a driver.

Does such a driver exist? If not when will it be released? Would it be possible to get a preliminary Version if it is already in the works?

Thanks

Johannes

Hello JWoeb,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

Before we proceed, let me just clarify. Are you designing a system?

If you have questions, please let us know.

Thanks for the response.

I was hoping there was a driver that already has a standalone Makefile and that was already prepared for compilation against an older kernel version. What would be the best way to backport/integrate this driver to Linux 4.14 in your opinion?

Thanks,

Johannes

Hello, @JWoeb:

Thanks for your update.

Your last question should be addressed to the driver developer support channels because they handle the proper information for their implementations.

FYI,

I asked the driver developers directly and it seems that there are no plans to support the IGC drivers for kernel versions < 5.*
