Hello!

We are developing device that have an i210 connected to SGMII SFP module.

After assembling device, the i210 detected by host processor(also on device) as

"I210 Blank NVM Device" with device id 0x1531.

After that, we flashing attached flash with eeupdate tool with following commad:

eeupdate.exe /nic=1 /data="Dev_Start_I210_Sgmii_NOMNG_16Mb_A2_3.25_0.03.bin".

After successfuly flashing, i210 not detecting by any driver including one for eeupdate(it disappears from eeupdate output).

We also tried Dev_Start_I210_SerdesKX_NOMNG_16Mb_A2_3.25_0.03.bin and Dev_Start_I210_Fiber_NOMNG_16Mb_A2_3.25_0.03.bin

firmware files. In first case device detected by driver as "Intel(R) I210 Gigabit Backplane Connection", but connected network(via SFP) is unreachable.

In second case i210 was not detected by drivers at all.

Also on that device is second I210 that works with copper media. We flashed it in the way described above with Dev_Start_I210_Copper_NOMNG_16Mb_A2_3.25_0.03.bin,

and it works properly.

How can we make i210 work with SGMII SFP?

Additional info:

OS: Windows 7

SFP module: P-Link based on Marvell 88E1111

Driver version: 12.13.27.0

EEUPDATE version: 5.25.08.01

Attached flash: ST M25P128

Hello!

Thanks for your reply!

I've read the thread you pointed on.

But in it's case, they used a discrete 88e1111 phy with MDIO control interface.

So, they solved the problem with switch this interface on and set it's parameters.

In our case, we use SGMII SFP itself, which has an I2C control interface.

Also, I checked values of "Initialization Word 4" and "Initialization Word 3" in the flash image we used.

As correctly noticed in that thread, it configured to work with I2C.

So, if we flash the "Dev_Start_I210_Sgmii_NOMNG_16Mb_A2_3.25_0.03.bin" image in empty flash chip, why

not Windows nor Linux does not see the device?

Any other suggestions for making it work?

Hello!

Some additional questions about i210.

1. Where can we find ordering and marking information of i210?

2. Does the WGI210AT (that's marking) chip support SGMII?

Hello, Eugene_Komarov:

Thanks for your reply.

It is important to let you know the AT does not support SGMII. It has a copper/RJ45 only interface. The IS is needed for connection to a SFP module. The SGMII image is the correct one to use.

Also, the SFP Module Support in Intel(R) Ethernet - 1 GbE Devices Application Note document # 555617 in section 1.3 has a list of SFP that may help you:

We hope that this information is useful to you.

Best regards,

Carlos_A.
