Bay Trail Invalid OSIP

Hi, I connected my PC to my BYT CRB development board via serial connection as I was having trouble booting. In PuTTY I got the following errors back:

-->Invalid OSIP signature 0xd08ec033
-->Invalid OSIP revisions (0x7c/0x00)
-->Invalid OSIP image count 0xc0
-->Invalid OSIP checksum 0x8e

ERROR: Invalid OSIP detected

I have no idea how to fix this error and would like some help with trying to fix it. Attached is the log I got when trying to boot.

Thanks for your clarification.

The replacement device markings are associated with the Intel Atom(R) Processor Z3775, which is a Cherry Trail or Bay Trail-T family as you may confirm in the following website:

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/secure/mark/products/80268/intel-atom-processor-z3775-2m-cache-up-to-2-39-ghz.html

The CRB and ES devices are Bay Trail -T as well. You can confirm this information in the forum associated with this thread.

Please keep in mind that Cherry Trail or Bay Trail-T family is on the “off-roadmap” information, and its support is for limited manufacturers.

Due to this fact, this family is out of the scope of support of this channel.

Hi @CarlosAM_INTEL,

The issue I have is not with the serial connection software. The issue comes from the bootloader of the board. The system tries to boot but hangs at POST. I used the debug AIC in order to see what the issue could be, after finding an Intel document detailing the debug process for viewing the boot process via serial over USB.

Hi @CarlosAM_INTEL,

The bootloader is Intel(R) OTM Boot Loader Development Kit for BYT, Version B0.00.30 (B0 PO).

The boot sequence hangs after "Reading OSIP from LBA 0x00000000 to memory address 0x0010000c".

Hi @CarlosAM_INTEL,

The processor is a Qualifying/Engineering Sample with the part number QEX6. It's a 2 core/4 thread CPU based on the Atom Valleyview 2 SoC.
Another part number stamped on the CPU is 24278 B-0.

I have tried using a different, non-ES processor, however the system would not POST at all (POST code 0000), presumably due to BIOS incompatibility.

Could you please let us know the name of the Customer Reference Board (CRB) associated with this situation? By the way, could you please let us know the procedure that you have followed to obtain it? 

Could you please provide topside markings pictures of the processors (the ES and replacements units) mentioned in your previous communication? Also, could you please let us know the way that you have followed to obtain them?

Hi @Mæcenas_INTEL,

The CRB is Bay Lake CRB Fab1 RevB. I obtained it from a third party who had it in storage and I am attempting to fix it.

Below is the ES chip and the new chip I used, respectively.

The ES chip was in the socket when I received the board, and the only place I could get hold of a production chip was via eBay.

Hi @Mæcenas_INTEL,

Yes, that question was related to the current thread, however as that was almost a year ago I didn't want to revive an old thread in case it either didn't get noticed or was frowned upon.

I have only recently been able to get a serial connection to the debug card and that was when I noticed the "invalid OSIP" errors on boot. Also, do you happen to know what OSIP is? I can't find any reference detailing what exactly it is.

Hi @CarlosAM_INTEL,
Thank you for your help. I had no idea that the OSIP parameter was related to the telnet/SSH client as I couldn't really find much reference to it online.

As for the CRB, I'll send an eCommerce request. Hopefully I can find some way to get the system running again.
