I was curious about the gm965 graphics controller on my laptop. I was doing some research and noticed that vaapi is supported through the IEGD driver in linux. It also appears the iegd driver provides graphic support for the gm965 graphics controller. I was wondering how much (if any) video acceleration the iegd driver is capable of. Are there any documents on this I could look at?

Hello and welcome to the Intel® Embedded Community.
Officially IEGD supports GME965, the embedded version, whereas the GM965 (without the "E") is intended for consumer PCs. See the IEGD platform support matrix here:

If you look at the specs, there are a few slight differences between the two. I am not a technical expert so can't say if IEGD cares about the differences.
Here is a good starting point where you can find a wealth of technical info on IEGD:

I hope this helps.
